Predator? What type do you have?
The definition of predator: an organism that lives by preying on other organisms.
With that definition in mind, do you have a "Predator"? Something that eats other things? Even a Convict could be a predator... So what do you have?

The snakehead snapping the 10" bass in half on youtube is one of my favorite.

Re: Predator? What type do you have?
I dont really consider my 10" Midas a predator but I have lost a couple fish that I knew were too small when I added them as tankmates.
A fish I have been totally intrigued by lately have been puffers. These guys seem all easygoing and peaceful but they are little monsters that tear their meals to pieces. If I can sneak another tank in I might consider getting one.

Vampire tetras are cool but they are pretty frail though. I like african tigerfish better.

A Sunfish. His color doesn't photograph well, and he has more blue now.

Nice Sunfish! Many native fish have very nice coloration but tricky to catch it in a picture.

Prickly sculpin...native
she lurks allot and is more of an ambush predator but is so awesome to watch her eat an almost 2 inch convict..
though she is fat and lazy now and ignores feeders...and begs for pellets..soon as she sees the pellet and my hand over the water she tweaks and throws her self at my hand ..its startling lol.

and a good color shot of Fyurae's sunfish when i had him in my out side tank

Kaosu, have always enjoyed seeing pics of the native Sculpin you raise. And I voted for your picture for the POTM. I thought it was a pretty cool pic.
That picture of the Sunfish really shows it off.

Re: Predator? What type do you have?
I remember going fishing with my dad and we would see all these little baby Sculpin darting around in some of the shallow pools. Never thought to bring any home. Very cool little fish. Closest thing I had to one was a bumble bee goby.
How old is yours and what is the expected lifespan?

mm she is almost 2 years old now, from every thing I have read in the wild they can reach 7 years, but its not really documented in a tank setting so im guessing 10+.

Re: Predator? What type do you have?
yeah she is they can reach up to 11 inches.mostly in salt conditions.. they can be 100% salt or fresh..or anything in between..and you can condition them between all of them slowly to convert back or forth.
they are most commonly found at the 5 inch mark..it will be interesting to see how big she will get in captivity .

Re: Predator? What type do you have?
I was given a sunfish by a friend, he called it a pumpkin seed. It is a pretty cool looking fish, and it is free to whomever wants to come get it. It just doesnt fit what I have.
It is about 4".

I'm new to the forums, do I don't know if this is okay to say here...Adonijah wrote:I want a snakehead sometime in my life. Some of those video's on youtube are killer!
But I've thought of driving out of state to catch me one, and bring it home. I know I could get him home alive in water, especially if they can last a few days out of water.

Re: Predator? What type do you have?
They are illegal. So you can "think" all you want on it but if you decide to act.... then you must face the consequences if you get caught.
It really is not appropriate to discuss ways you want to break the law.
