My Festae tank! Empty My Festae tank!

Post  Spyral 2011-06-25, 17:33

Now that all the other fish have been re-homed and my 12 new Festae are comfortably acclimated to their new home, I figured it was time for a few pictures!

The tank has gone through some changes these past few days. I added a black background, an FX5 filter and redid the aqua-scaping to better suit my new little guys. I changed around the rock work to give the little guys plenty of hiding places and caves to feel safe in. I designed an area with a more open feel that still retains cover for the larger Festae. Plenty of bog wood for the Plecos to suck on and, of course, NO PLANTS!

I am really digging the FX5, it has amazing filtration and moves the water real nice. I also like the cleaner look of just one intake and one outlet as opposed to the 2 AC110's that previously cluttered the back of the tank.

So far, everyone is getting along just fine, a few of the larger new Festae have taken to hanging about my larger Festae with no aggression issues. They are all feeding on NLS, frozen blood worms and Hikari micro-pellets for the little guys. The Plecos are eating good too, algae wafers and the occasional slice of cucumber.

So, with all that being said, here are the pictures!

That looks great! Thoughs are some nice pieces of wood. I have one that looks similar to your trunk one but mine is fake so that's real cool. The color contrast is going to be sick when your fish start getting bright reds to'em.

Nice looking tank. The lack of plants makes me sad. Looks good with the black background, it contrasts nicely with the blue gravel.

I like the black background personally. Blue looks good in reef tanks, but I haven't seen too many blue freshwater tanks that I thought looked really good. But you know the drill - yours is the only perspective that counts. Smile

If I could keep a plant alive, I would consider it, but I can't.

Don't plants need care? I have a good light, dual T5 HO. I don't need something that's going to kick my arse in care..lol

I think, the FX performs better overall with a high GPH sponge pre-filter.

Dude, this thing is packed with 25 pounds of media! It clears an entire tank in seconds.

Media is as follows:

Bottom basket - Foam surround and a full chamber of Eheim Ehfimech.

Middle basket - Foam surround and seeded media from an AC110 - ceramic noodles and a large carbon bag.

Top basket - Foam surround and the media chamber is filled with a mix of bio/ammonia remover and nitrazorb.

I top it all off with my own polishing pads.

The combination is awesome. me and Aaronfeeney literally watched the tank go from cloudy as all get out to crystal clear in maybe 10 minutes after we disturbed the shit out of the tank and removed all the decor to get out the fish I gave him.
