Convict Rescue Empty Convict Rescue

Post  Kaosu 2010-11-27, 23:55

I picked this fish up from PetSmart after watching it for a few months...went in and it was on sale for 2$ and a very uneducated shopper was saying how cute she would be in her 'bowel' witch she had in her hand...maybe 2 gallons....so i bought her
i love her colors! .....sad that she is missing a tail but she gets around as if it were still there..it looks like and old injury ..not cut.
shes in a 35 along ATM but will be switching tanks with my sculpin soon to a 22...might get her a small male if i can find a nice enough one. ^_^ love her colors..this is my first Cichlid!!
..i plan to use the babies as feeders for my sculpin.

let me know what you think^_^ and if any one has any really nice fry of decent size i can get a male from..iv had her about 2 weeks and she eats like a little pig.

shes about 2 inches max

Hay! i came down to your store a few months back^_^ i would love a little male!!
i have to move the tank to my house, the one she is in..im looking for a stand that can hold both my tanks something around 50 inches long and 13inches deep
...i don't want to get her a male before i have her with me to watch them...but i would love to come down and look at them, i can always keep them separated until i can get them moved here. (with in a week or two)

and i was going to come down and ask you if you wanted my pleco he/she is a Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus. about 6 inches long

Kaosu, try putting your pleco up on here for sale. Or just for rehoming, since Big Fish is full on plecos. Fish seem to sell pretty well on here Wink

while i am a first time cichlid owner..i am not a first time fish owner and know the two do not mix
..this fish was a rescue/impulse buy..if you look at the date it was taken a while ago the goldie was in there for one night..and was fine when rehome to a friend the next morning.

I lean toward Lars concerns. I've had convicts and have seen how wicked they can be... they are like the chihuahua of fish... they do not know how small they are, but their bite marks back it up. That little guy will rule your tank or take a beating trying. Just keep a close eye on em is all I'm saying. Good luck.

lol too bad you are not looking for a small female, we have one from when i made a mistake on getting a pair, didnt have enough mouths to feed the 600+ fry i had x.x, gave them to a petstore including the dad(he killed the mom) so they could feed their mata mata. And i think the tail is cut, looks like the heart cut they do. Normally around valentines day on parrots. But they have done them on other fish

really enjoy my cons and there attitude..they are my monsters in small bodies ..not to mention my tailless girl is so cute AND....every one loves to eat con babies..

none of them even make it to a 1/2 inch.. every one eats con wigglers >.>EVERYONE ..even my little killi fish they love chasing them around..awesome feeders if you want to feed small fish but gaahh i tried to grow some out to 1/2 inch and it took forever even power feeding them.

Part of the reason why I didn't want to get cons, I know I would have had trouble sacrificing the babies. It's the reason I have platy fry coming out my ears but it's easier to find homes for them. I like your female, tough little chicky

yeah...they breed so much, but I sacrificed a community tank to keep her alive and healthy...so she works for her space.

I have no problems feeding them to my fish..most are fed as wigglers or barely swimming, a few are left with the parent until they start to spawn again..when they are rounded up and dumped in to the Sculpin tank.

she is sooooo mean and beats up her male all the time ..he just hides from her...

she earns her keep by feeding my other fish! ^_^

cichlids sure are fun. I've started drifting away from the heavily planted community tanks, just so much work. I spent a couple hours yesterday on my small tropical community pruning plants and putting everyone who managed to pass "the great wall of aquaria". I got the calico plecos back on the right side and I came back an hour later and they both managed to get on the fry side again scratch

Anyways I love coming home to my jewel cichlid. His tank is right next to the door and he's always got his face shoved into the corner when I open the door. He tries his best to follow me around. I'm hoping my soon to be HRP will behave similarly.
