300 gal Bubble Tank
Hey all. So at work, I take precedence over a 300 gallon bubble front tank and I need some help. Currently I am having trouble Deciding on fish to put in it. I'll say now that i aim for SA fish/certain CA cichlids when I do my tanks. Currently it houses 6 Red Hook Silver Dollars, 1 Rotkiel Severum, 4 Clown loaches(Boss likes them in there) 1 Satanoperca Leucosticta, 1 Vieja Argentea, 1 Green Dragon Bristlenose Pleco, and 1 Flagtail Prochilodus.
So my question, what are some other very eye catching, uncommon SA fish that are all level swimmers if possible. Can be 3"-12". Am looking for more Pleco ideas, preferably algae eaters, not aufwuchs. Don't want alot of bogwood because of the tannins.
Please help me out and give me any suggestions from the far reaches of your minds.

Don't they get big? And aggressive... Pretty though, so P.S. need peaceful/ semi aggressive fish.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Everything I have read said they max out at 12 inches. So that would probably take a few years depending on feeding and water quality. As far as aggresion I know they can be but mine was housed with a wolf cichlid and a pike cichlid so he wasn't the aggresser. But in a big tank like that, I would think that is more then enough room to mellow them out if they were. But it's just my opinion. I am new to the hobby so I haven't that much experience.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Hmm if any small ones pass through I'll look into it. Ive got some smaller Characins in there I don't want to get beaten up. They are pretty though, Wolf cichlids and most pikes are pretty aggressive themselves but I think a mayan would beat up the Geo's. They aren't as "dominant" I would say.
Oh also if you know where to get said fish you suggest that would be very helpful, I can get alot of fish through my store but know one has everything.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Pm fern on here all the lfs that I go to regularly are out. But fern can catch them for you.
If there are fragile fish in there I wouldn't do it. It may not turn out good and I would hate to be repsonsible for a accident. I know they can be pushy. But compared to the pike and dovii it was very mellow. But those fish are pretty agressive. The dovii extremly agressive.

No black arowanas, we have a 8 inch jardini but something is wrong with it, we got two in about a month ago, one looked fantastic and was really energetic, the other...well lets say no one has bought him yet for a reason. I don't even know if we can get black arowanas, do you know a store??

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
How about a Gourami? Find a larger one and they really add some color. I have a 4" blue spotted that lives with 4 freaky tinfoil barbs and it holds its own.
Or even a giant Gourami, you guys haven't carried any that I have noticed...
Or a couple of Tin Foils barbs since I am looking at mine at the moment(shedding the hornwart I just put in their tank... ) they are mid swimmers for sure and have lots of energy...

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Sounds like a awesome tank! I dont know any SA cichlids that are non-agressive though..... Green terrors are semi-agressive I heard?? Well, when i had one it seemed to be beat up by everyone even though it was bigger than everyone. besides that please update us with what you stock with.

Pictures tomorrow hopefully. It has 4xClown Loaches, 3xGeo. Brasiliensis, 1xSatanoperca Lucostica, 1xHeros "Rotkeil", 1xVeija Argentina, 1xFlagtail Prochilodus, 6xRed Hook Silver Dollars, 1xGreen Dragon Ancistrus. Like said, It's sort of a SA biotope(ish).

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Green terrors will get up to 12" long and actually have teeth. So if they get agressive they will do some damage if they have smaller fish in the tank. We had two 1/2" terrors in with adult cichlids, and a couple of fulu's about 3/4" and the terrors killed one of the fulu's tore it's tail all up and killed it, then took care of it's other fins before got home. Green terrors now have their own tank because they were holding their own at 1/2" with adult african's. So I'd be cautious of putting them in with your tank. Just my experience.
p.s. when terror's get bigger they will eat feeder goldfish whole.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
GT's compared to other Large SA cichlids are more moderate in temperament..... seen even small jack dempseys do allot of damage medium sized green terrors..... SA cichlids I was thinking comparing wouldve been red devils, midas, wolfs, festaes, etc.... Fulu's or any other african with any SA cichlid is not recommended. The water parameters are completly different for each fish... and obviously size is a huge factor there too.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
I thought about a Silversaum "Green Terror". Wasn't trying to put you down Sand. But I think GT's would tear the Satanoperca to shreds. I wanted to do big SA's actually but boss wanted something "friendly" for customers not violent . Was thinking about some festae and shi*.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
lol.... didnt think you were tryin to put me down.... but when you said 300 gallon, and SA tank, I automatically think the big guys... festaes, terrors, peacocks, midas, red devils, gars, etc etc...... so when you thru in the word non aggressive, only thing that I could think of that was the least aggressive of that group wouldve been the GT's.... but now I know what you are tryin to do... makes sence.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Have you been in lately? to Midway I mean? And yeah I really wanted that stuff, the bubble part would have been perfect for showing how big they really are. Get some Festaes, maybe a super Red Texas maybe even giant gobies. Oh while I have you here, do you have any African cichlids for sale or something? I heard your into Tangs.

Re: 300 gal Bubble Tank
Big NO on the Mayan's in there, they are very aggressive. If you can find crested gobys one would be nice in there. I have a wc one and he holds his own in mildly aggressive African tank.
Royal plecos are nice, not sure if they would work in there just because I dont know much about them.....

I can't do a Royal as I'm pretty sure they need wood in the tank and feed off of aufwuchs. Know any other plecos that feed mainly on Algae? Ive already got an ancistrus in there.

planetcatfish.com would be the place to look, start with size and go from there. I work with mainly the small plecos.
