Another site just referred this and I went and used it to see if my tanks were all okay. Pretty neat tool. May be something to put in a sticky for people to have easy access to. You put in your tank dimension at the top and what you have or plan on putting in a tank and optional info about filter(s) and it tells you how often to do water changes, how much of a percent of water and what the percent of stocking level you are at for the tank. Here is the link

Funny, I was just on there thinking about changing up my stock on my 72g bowfront. It is a nice guide for sure. I think many people would be shocked at what it considers a 'full' tank. Way too many people overstock and then dont do enough maintenance.

Very true, my 75 gallon is at just above capacity and when you look at it it doesn't seem like there are many fish in there. I was glad to read this to either rehome some fish or wait for nature to take its course before I add any additional. I was very glad however to see the nano tank I was putting together for my office will be perfectly stocked! Smile

It does not like some combos. Even though I have enough filtration and do regular water changes, it did not like the thought of a single Midas cichlid in a 72g bowfront because it can get up to 14". In my opinion I think it would work out fine unless it was a freakishly big one.

Yeah it threw up a bunch of flags about my 75 gallon community about the tetras nipping the angelfish and etc. Good for some beginners. And even good to look at for experienced fish owners but it's a little more cautious than I see necessary.

I had used this before but forgotten about it.. Say's I'm a little over capacity with my 60 gallon

Warning: Green Tiger Barb is too aggressive to co-exist with Harlequin Rasbora.

Mine have been okay but I have a big group of tiger barbs Smile They're pushy for the first few minutes in the tank with newbies but then they do their own thing.

Yeah I had a ton of warnings like that come up on my 75. But everyone lives peacefully in there.

I had been interested in a lurker type puffer like a Congo. They are pretty sedentary in nature and dont need a large tank. Most say a 29g is sufficient. Yet when you plug in the info on that site it does not like the fact the fish can get 6" and is only in a 30"x12" footprint. You increase the length to 36" and its ok with that. Seems it would want you to have at least a 18" wide tank instead of 12" but it was more concerned with the length of the tank.

I use that as a rough guide, which is what I think it was meant to be rather then a hard line. Depends on the particular individual fish you have, and defiantly how well you maintain. It ALWAYS goes nuts when I put in my Red Tailed Shark because I keep mine with tetras, but her attitude isn't nearly as bad as the website suggests. Great for trying out stocking ideas or checking if it thinks a particular filter will be sufficient.
