AH Supply 96w PC kit
Finally got this put together and got to see what it looks like on the tank. I'm really impressed. This is by far the most intense lighting I've ever had on a tank. It honestly scared me the first time I turned in on, while sitting on the ground in front of the tank, because it reminded me of a camera flash. I've seen a chart on another forum listing it at "medium light" at this distance to substrate, maybe I'm just that inexperienced but this seems much more than that.
As I previously mentioned in another thread, I was very surprised at the immense amount of heat generated. I did add a cooling fan, but I'm only running it at 50% voltage. Even so, with the final stand off of the fixture and the addition of the fan it seems to be staying extremely cool and the fan noise is barely noticeable.
Overall cost for the fixture, for me, was about $135. Maybe that's a bit much but I had fun customizing it and the knowledge that I can easily alter and adjust as needed in the future.
I'll do a follow up once the tank is up and running with how the plants enjoy it. But for now, very pleased.

Power compacts rock. Expensive bulb to replace but a good fixture indeed.

Hi p_r_anderson,
What I have come to appreciate is the ability to repair or replace a component, including end plugs or ballasts, and not have to replace the entire fixture.
Lamps do not have to be expensive. A 6500K / 96 watt lamp can cost as little as $12 each delivered if I purchase four at a time; I replace my bulbs every 12 months.
