This was actually put up on mother's day but it showcases why women bear children and not men...LOL...its probably the same for fish gals and guys...fish girls bear the pain better I'm sure

Re: Men and pain
All I have to say is I disagree to a point. My pain tolerance is very high, I was pinned between 2 trucks when I was 20 and snapped my lower left leg. The leg swelled up as large as my thigh, I didnt flinch, cry or scream, I did almost pass out.
So if child birth is that painful then I feel for all you women, but I dont think that it is, but really how am I to know. Child berth for you could be on a pain scale from 1 to 10 as a 12 for women, I would venture to think for myself the pain level would be closer to a 6. But thats just me.

Re: Men and pain
I know my husband has an extremely high pain tolerance but I still think I have him beat. He had shoulder surgery (rotator cuff) and it took him a couple of weeks to get off the pain pills. I had a kidney removed (I have a slice on me that goes from about my belly button to my middle back as they splayed me wide open to get that puppy) and I was off my pain pills in just over a week and back to work at 5 weeks.
No way to gauge what the pain was from that operation other than the day after the surgery my spinal flipped...switched sides....I was on the verge of passing out also Madness...I've never experienced pain like that...dont' want to again. Childbirth seemed like a walk in the park compared to that.

Re: Men and pain
LOL, hey when my ex and I went to birthing class on our first child, the instructor asked what we men thought the pain level was and most of the guys were saying above 10, I said about 6-7 and explained why I thought that. She said that I was correct, and the pain is similar to breaking an arm or leg.
So come line up women, cause once your here you cant leave until you .........................

Re: Men and pain
Having just witnessed my wife go through child birth I know there is no way I could do it. I almost passed out the other day when I broke a glass I was washing in my hand, cutting myself pretty good.

Re: Men and pain
I pulled into the hospital parking lot and went into the ER one day with a horrendous pain that would start in my lower abdomen and move around to my back. It would stop and then start again. The older nurse took me into a room and asked a bunch of questions and then presented me with..."I think you are experiencing the closest thing a man can to childbirth labor pain. I believe you're passing kidney stones''.
If that is the case, then I've experienced the birth of 3 kids..!!!!! Not fun at all! I've always had high regard for Moms. These experiences increased it even more!!

Re: Men and pain
There is quite a difference between the pain that comes from labor, and the pain you would get from a sudden accident. In a traumatic event, adrenalin and all sorts of other neurotransmitters are flooding your brain and making your injury feel less painful in the moment so that you can get out of the danger you are in.
I don't think that the "fight or flight" reaction and resulting painkilling brain chemicals come into play with labor and childbirth, so it probably really does feel much more painful. Even though you are obviously being physically injured much less than, say, a gunshot, you might feel pain much more intensely.
Since pain is a completely subjective sense that depends on the person and specific situation, I have never thought this argument has any merit, especially since men can never experience the same pain that you are using to "compare" pain tolerance between the sexes... It's easy to say women are better at handling pain because they can handle childbirth, because no one can ever prove it one way or another since men can't experience that pain.
Plus, lots of women take drugs to help with the pain of childbirth.

Re: Men and pain
You forget during pregnancy we build up on natural pain blockers too cause our body knows punishment is coming. Though I think your right, rather hard to compare tolerances especially when people have different pain thresholds.

Re: Men and pain
Oh I would love for some of the people who say men don't know pain to go through a cluster headache. I've been "fortunate" enough to only have 2 episodes ever in my life.
Anyways, I'll let wikipedia explain:
Anyways, I'll let wikipedia explain:
The pain of cluster headaches is remarkably greater than in other headache conditions, including severe migraine. The term "headache" does not adequately convey the severity of the condition; experts have suggested that the disease may be the most painful condition known to medical science. Female patients have reported cluster headache pain as being more severe than pain of natural childbirth.
Peter Goadsby, a neurologist and headache specialist at the Kings College Hospital, has commented:
"Cluster headache is probably the worst pain that humans experience. I know that's quite a strong remark to make, but if you ask a cluster headache patient if they've had a worse experience, they'll universally say they haven't. ... Women with cluster headache will tell you that an attack is worse than giving birth. So you can imagine that these people give birth without anaesthetic once or twice a day, for six, eight or ten weeks at a time, and then have a break."

Oh gawds. Thankfully I've only had one cluster headache, but I didn't handle it very well. I can totally understand why they used to be called suicide headaches back in the day before decent pain killers were available.

Re: Men and pain
Sure women give birth instead of men, but Heaven forbid the thermostat get set to 66 when it should be 68.....
