When I first started keeping African cichlids many years ago, I had some hybrids that I bought as pure M. greshakei, (drab in color as fry) but as they matured, it became obvious that they weren't pure. I'm still living with a few of them! I don't save any fry, but once in a while there is a survivor like this guy.

This one was a cross of S. fryeri and A. calliptera. The male fryeri had females of his own species, but still he was always trying to spawn with the calliptera females as well. Back then, I didn't think they would cross breed if they were of a different genus and had others of their own species to spawn with.

Now I do mostly species only tanks! I don't trust these fish!

Yes your RTM X JAG is still better looking. I see the blue in the fins. Weird contrast black yellow with hint of blue.

I like 1 & 2 but the 3rd pic is an ugly fish. My opinion of course.

I agree! I can't even figure out what that third fish is..... It's like a morbidly obese discuss... Haha. But I had to show all of those colors! I wonder what the parents were?

The 3rd fish is the best example of when hybrids go wrong. I cant understand the whole parrot thing. If you need the parrot to make the red texas (not sure if you do or don't) I guess it has a purpose. Aside from that back to the blender where they came from.

A true KKBP is far less deformed and considerably more expensive. The bright reds are a dominant gene which allow the fry to show more red.

A regular deformed blood parrot is an abomination. LOL
An interesting read for those of you interested in making those beautiful Red Texas I guess the link would help

I would like to see those fish under normal lighting. If you look at the skin color of the handler we notice the fish is under a red/purple light. So Those deep reds might in fact not be so bright/deep. Just my opinion.
