Hainan Island - White Clouds
Looking to expand what fish I know of as cool water. I thought I'd look up white clouds and see where they are from. Hainan Island is where they are found. Interestingly enough Paradise Fish are found there also.
What I'm wondering now is can Paradise fish go as low as white clouds? I've kept clouds in the 40s before outside. I know paradise fish were the first "tropical" fish ever imported into the USA. It would be interesting to see if they thrive at lower temperatures or only tolerate it.
I'm on the lookout for more aquarium fish that come from the Hainan Islands that might be under my radar.

My 'Labyrinth Fish' book says they can go down to 10C=50C. The Chinese (used to be a separate species) one says down to 0C.

Wow, thanks for that info Dwarfpike! See all this talk is teaching me stuff and we're putting together quite a little list so far

Np. I've searched for the Chinese ones for years, but never seen them available. You probably have better contacts than I do though.

Thanks dwarfpike! Is it the book by Helmut Pinter?

No, the old one by Horst Linke via Tetra Press. 1991 I believe. It's out of date in terms of species and genera, but collection data never goes out of date. I believe it's called Labyrinth Fish: The Bubble-Nest Builders.
