What fish do you keep?
What are you keeping?
The last thread on who is keeping livebearers made me wonder what else everyone is keeping... then I saw that we can make polls, and I couldn't help myself! So here we go, check away and let me know what you got!
(secretly hoping for a huge contingent of minnow and gourami lovers!)

Re: What are you keeping?
African and American cichlids, bettas, anabantoids, plecos, catfish and low tech plants.
I only have one blue gourami left from my last batch, but I used to breed them and they are purdy when in full breeding colors
I used to have white cloud minnows as well, which I may eventually get again because they don't eat their young and I love when they display.

Re: What are you keeping?
I marked all species I have, even if I just have one of them...I still have them and put livebearers under "other".

LOL, I totally wrote livebearers the first time around, but a bug made me loose the list. I forgot to add them the second time around!

Oooh, okay...MRTom wrote:I would guess anything that needs CO2?
Well 3 of my tanks are CO2injected, LED & T5HO, & an array of fertilizers. I would guess this is "high tech"

Re: What are you keeping?
Yep! Heck, high tech java fern counts! To be honest, I'm more curious about how many folks are bothering with CO2 injection, T5 and fertilizer and how many are going plastic or java moss. The bummer is this implies there are very few folks doing amano landscapes or nature aquariums. On the upside, lots of cool fish!fishNAbowl wrote:Oooh, okay...

You got that right! I recently got a 125... and while my true dream is to get 1000 sparkling gouramis in there... 1 red tail would do wonders too!KaraWolf wrote:bwhahaha a convert!!! :DI love mine and plan on always having at least 1 they're awesome bebeautiful fish <3

Re: What are you keeping?
In spite of the other snafu, a few interesting things are cropping up... like the need to have a lot of killifish pics to get people excited about keeping huge schools of clown killies and others like them! (I also love killies!)
And I'm blown away and totally excited to see two shark keepers! I almost put that on there expecting 0 or 1

Re: What are you keeping?
Other? I was thinking of hillstream loaches when I thought of sucker fish. But where does that leave clown loaches? Man! We're gonna have to do this again in a few weeks!

Re: What are you keeping?
Bichirs are becoming very popular. I bet if they were on the list they would have more vote than 5 of your choices, maybe more.

Re: What are you keeping?
I was gonna say go find an even tempered one(the guy in the tank that isn't beat up much, isn't paled out, but isn't actively chasing anyone who didn't start it first) but sparkling gourami's are even smaller then what I currently have mine in with 0.o She has cohabited so far with: otos whom she doesn't give a hoot about-not even to kick out of her personal cave, black skirt tetra, black phantom tetra, and orange von rio flames. Eventually she will have to put up with marble hatchets and lemon tetra too. So far I've found anything with half a brain for escaping predators do just fine.MRTom wrote:You got that right! Re: What are you keeping?
I don't know what this means? In nature CO2 in the water is abundant. So is many of the fertilizers we add. These elements are produced very slowly in an enclosed environments, so slow that many of the plants are stunted, or may die completely. Adding supplements is a way to mimic natural habitats.MRTom wrote: be honest, I'm more curious about how many folks are bothering with CO2 injection, T5 and fertilizer and how many are going plastic or java moss. Re: What are you keeping?
I don't think there is an official definition of high tech or low tech aquariums. In fact a quick google search turns up more discussions like this one asking the question than anything else. In the end, If you consider yourself high tech, vote high tech, otherwise low tech. We should start (or revive?) a separate topic on the subject and rochambeau over itfishNAbowl wrote:I don't know what this means? In nature CO2 in the water is abundant. Re: What are you keeping?
This is awesome info. When I am ready with my big tank, I will totally start a topic asking for recommendations like this oneKaraWolf wrote:I was gonna say go find an even tempered one(the guy in the tank that isn't beat up much, isn't paled out, but isn't actively chasing anyone who didn't start it first) but sparkling gourami's are even smaller then what I currently have mine in with 0.o She has cohabited so far with: otos whom she doesn't give a hoot about-not even to kick out of her personal cave, black skirt tetra, black phantom tetra, and orange von rio flames.
