A visit to cichlid-gal's fish house
This last weekend I had the good fortune of getting to visit fellow fishboxer cichlid-gal and her family. If you ever get the chance to go out to central WA, definitely stop by and say hi to Donna and John!
Here are a few pictures of their incredible setup! I don't think I even managed to cover half of their awesome tanks a tenth of as well as I should have! What an amazing setup!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Thanks for the great time! And congrats on retiring John!
(Full disclosure, I liked some of these tanks so much, that I am heading back in a few days to steal the tank with those Mainganos! )

I can't say I've ever visited central washington, only passing through as I fled eastern washington!!
Are those african red eye tetras in the first pic in the second row? They look more colorful than ones I've seen. Really sharp.

Yes they are nice people! I have met John and only talked to Donna on the phone.. A+++ I honestly have yet to meet anyone here that I didn't like.. Small percentage but still, I don't think anyone here is an internet axe killer. that being said I do own one..

Tom...thanks so much for sharing those wonderful pictures. You do an awesome job with that camera. I only wish my camera would do the same. I love these and might steal some if that is OK. And Tom...it was our pleasure to have you. We had so much fun sharing our tanks and fishes with you!!!
Dwarfpike...yes African red-eyed Tetras. I think the brown background really sets those guys off colorwise. They are stunning in person.
And Jim...some day we will meet in person I know. Till then I'm just happy there is e-mail and forums. And I agree...great people on these forums!!!

Beautiful fish. I can only guess what some of the Africans are. Others, like the Johanni, are apparent. Clues?

Hyp3 those are actually Pseudotropheus cyanerhabdos (Maingano). Oh my, the rest...the list will be long. I can do it but need a little time. Thanks for asking

Thanks Tom and thanks Angelo
Here's a key to the pics:
1. Psuedotropheus cyaneorhabdos (Maingano)
2. Paralabidochromis chromogynos female
3. Cynotilapia zebroides Nkhata Bay Yellow Blaze juvenile
4. Psammochromis riponianus dominant male
5. Alcolapia alcalicus fry
6. Alcolapia alcalicus fry
7. 33G planted tank
8. Mikrogeophagus ramirezi dominant male
9. 25G community tank
10. Limbochromis robertsi pair (Wild caught)
11. Limbochromis robertsi male
12. Arnoldichthys spilpterus (African red-eyed tetra) and Green glow tetra (grandsons )
13. Arnoldichthys spilopterus (African red-eyed tetra) and Denison barb (Roseline shark)
14. Denison Barb (roseline shark)
15. Xystichromis sp. "kyoga flameback" holding female
16. Placidochromis sp. ''Phenochilus Tanzania' dominant juvenile male
17. X. sp. "kyoga flameback" dominant male
18. Metriaclima sp. zebra gold OB female (wild caught)
19. Metriaclima sp. zebra gold dominant male (WC) and polits
20. Pseudotropheus sp. "polit" dominant male
21. Metriaclima sp. zebra gold (WC) subdom male
22. 125G Lions Cove tank
23. Corydoras sterba
24. Corydoras - unknown
25. Characodon lateralis fry
26. Characodon lateralis fry
27. Characodon lateralis male and female
And I'm not sure but if you look closely at the last pic...at the female in the picture...the big lady...I believe that maybe she is spawning (livebearer) her fry. The day Tom visited she was very agitated and swimming up and down in the back corner of the tank and hiding. I wasn't sure what was bothering her but the following day I had about 6 new babies in the tank. I think she was spawning and I think Tom caught her in the act. Could this be what we are seeing in this pic?

Re: A visit to cichlid-gal's fish house
I REALLY like the Paralabidochromis chromogynos in the second picture, very nice patterns. Are the males even more colorful?
Not sure I will ever have the chance to come up that way, but if I am, I will get in touch with you for sure, so maybe I can come see them in person! It was really nice meeting both of you at the meeting a couple weeks ago
What's the area like geographically? If there is also interesting hiking in the area, that would give me extra incentive to drive all that way
