C. pygmaeus?
I won these at the last GSAS meeting and had no place to put them that night, so they went into a breeder box. I found a few pleco eggs that had been kicked out of their cave and thought the cories would eat them, but they weren't interested and a day or two later, little plecos started to form.

They were more interested in the nls pellets.

I've moved them into a 10 gallon now (with their little pleco friends).

They are cute little things. I couldn't remember what they were; are they pygmaeus? Will I be able to keep them in this 10 gallon long term or do they need a larger tank?

If I remember right, C. pygmaeus has the midlateral line and C. hastatus doesn't ... but don't quote me on that.

Re: C. pygmaeus?
I had 1 with my shrimps all good till I had planaria. Had put him with the big boys (35gal) after I got the shrimp tank debug (tossing all substrate, put boiling water in tank, and washed/placed all plants in solution of 1 part hydrogen peroxide/ 2 parts h2o. Then when I was looking for him in 35gal floating in bottom of the tank. Got beat up by the bigger community fishes. But he was good with shrimps and not eating the shrimplets.

Yeah, they are tiny critters maxing out less than an inch in length. Look pretty cool in nano tanks.

Re: C. pygmaeus?
I'm enjoying watching the cute little things swim around in a group. This is all new to me. With the exception of the plecos, my fish are all on the aggressive side.
MRTom, I wanted them to snack on those pleco eggs. I have way too many bristlenose!

Re: C. pygmaeus?
I'm sure a few stores will take your plecos if you don't want them Maybe these guys are too small to eat the eggs of bigger fish like plecos? I've been keeping similarly sized rasboras, and the biggest food they'll take are daphnia. It would be good to know if that's the case with C Pygmaeus as well.

Re: C. pygmaeus?
Mine chew on blood worms. Fun to watch them try to eat something nearly a quarter their own size....lol, a blood worm....ha! Ever see a fish struggle setting a bloodworm? Lol
They also seem to like Gigi's wonder food as well.

Re: C. pygmaeus?
Pygmy Corydoras (like other Corydoras) prefer being in groups of 6+ . . . they are fun to watch swimming in tight schools around the tank, that's for sure! I have 10 of them in my 20 gallon long, and the only time I ever see them is when it's feeding time. And then they disappear, and I will see them swimming in a tight group, from time to time.
I'm guessing they love it in my heavily planted tank.

Those are precious Betty. Always fun to have a fish that will stay small like that. Too cute.
