That's a load of crap and you know it. Most of it was in good shape and I gave you a TON of it Besides which, you had more mystery snails than you knew what to do withBillHN wrote:

Dry Start Method. You set the tank up as a terrarium - high humidity emersed with daily misting. It gives the plants a chance to get established more quickly in a CO2-abundant environment before submersing.fishNAbowl wrote:

Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
I have limited experience with this:

But so far, over a month after filling, I haven't had any melt at all in mine. Even the crypts seem to be fine, which is a bit surprising.

Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
It was a kick watching my tank grow BillHN's tank will look nicer than mine when it's ready to be filled (ugly cubefilter kind of spoils the mood). I think everyone should try it.
The glosso I gave BillHN was grown emersed and unfortunately crashed once the soil ran out of nutrients. It came from here:

I've added some potassium nitrate + monopotassium phosphate solution to the soil along with some plantex csm+b since I ripped a big chunk out for Bill (the part that was still good) and it's starting to come back around. So use something GOOD for a DSM tank like aquasoil or mineralized soil so it doesn't run out like my simple topsoil did.

I experimented by mixing fluorite sand in a dirtied bowl. I do not know what the shelf life is to the dirt (potting soil) we use. It varies from what I read. So I was thinking to mix with fluorite, fish/ invertebrate waste would maintain the soils fertility.
So if you start a tank dry - one could inject ferts into the soil for an added boost? Or would this be over kill?

Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
Gonna be honest guys. I fell asleep soooo seeing this was like O_O?
Yeah pbmax gave me the glosso
And the ferts he added to his glosso terrarium started reviving the plants really fast!
And I didn't have too many problems with my plants melting when I refilled my tanks.
Idk bout injecting ferts into soil, all I did was use amazonia 2 for the high clarity 10 dorrah tank.
And the fish bowl was a mix of different stuff from: Fluval Ebi , Safe-T-Sorb , Flourite , and amazonia 2.
Yeah pbmax gave me the glosso

Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
I would start out with no supplemental ferts, personally. The soil will have enough nutrients to last for a while in the beginning. If you start seeing indications of nutrient deficiency (yellow leaves, holes, etc.) then you might consider it. Too many nutrients is a bad thing.fishNAbowl wrote:

I'm not an expert by any means, this is just my experience thus far. The glosso terrarium is an ongoing experiment. I have no idea how often I should be adding supplemental ferts, so I'm starting out slow.
I do have glass to make more terrariums and I intend to get my emersed grow setup going again this fall / winter.

Sucky Mine in the terrarium is slowing down again too. It's a finicky plant, that's for sure. Are you misting it at all?

Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
Yeah daily mistings. It just died but my hc and hair grass are doing great
Re: Dry Start Method (DSM) tanks.
Hmm, mine didn't seem to care much about whether I misted or not either. Go figure?
I need to add some hair grass to my emersed tub. Got any fancy stem plants I can snag bits of, by chance?
