My Pleco Journal
I like plecos especially Bushy Nose.
So i Collect them and will be trying to breed.
This first couple pics are my Long Fin Green Dragon Bushy Nose Pleco or (LFGDBNP) I got from madness. These are the last Spawn before he lost the female and sold the Dad.
Growth is slow. But I like how they stay alive and just be friendly with everyone in the tank.

Re: My Pleco Journal
Thanks guys. And my main goal is to get this two grow up until they are sexable then i ll find them at least a pair of each. Unless they are both females then i just need 1 male. My instinct is saying 1 male 1 female the way they grow. But i can't really tell.

Are Pleco's breedable? My understanding(though not an avid pleco fan) is no known succesful captive bred.

yes, they are successfully captive bred. I can't remember who posted the last one, but we have had many members breed plecos in the recent months.Chiisai wrote:Are Pleco's breedable? My understanding(though not an avid pleco fan) is no known succesful captive bred.

Re: My Pleco Journal
common and the sailfins(both are on the cheaper end of plecos) would be low risk options for your dovii tank , but they get rather large, obviously and I don't know if dovii would tolerate them once the dovii reach a foot or more......

Re: My Pleco Journal
I have a Pleco in my Oscar tank thats about 14" I have considered trying it out but everything I have read says they dont tolerate ANY tank mates once they are 5"+ But then again I have seen youtube videos with Dovii/Red Parrot/Jags/Jack dempsey all in 280 gal tank so Idk. I know my oscars are full grown say 14"+? My Oscars practically jump out of the tank if the pleco decides to speed from one end to the other.lloyd378 wrote:common and the sailfins(both are on the cheaper end of plecos) would be low risk options for your dovii tank , but they get rather large, obviously and I don't know if dovii would tolerate them once the dovii reach a foot or more......

Re: My Pleco Journal
Not all Plecos are algae eaters, in fact very few of them are. The only thing that could hang with a Dovii would be a common even then I wouldnt advise it.Chiisai wrote:Any kinds of Pleco that could play nice in a Dovii tank? Lol

Re: My Pleco Journal
Bristlenose plecos are one of my favorites! I breed them in a 10gal with a 1m/2f ratio and get about 100 babies a month. I currently have about 20-30 sexable juveniles (all but a few are females...) and hundreds of babies spread throughout my tanks.
I recently purchased a blue eyed albino and a calico, that latter of which is a male!
It looks like yours are a couple inches already, so I'd guess they are both females. Are you going to try to find a Green Dragon male, or mix them with another type?
These guys are pretty easy to breed, just get a tight fitting cave and they'll start doing the deed. lol
