Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
I use a syringe to fill mine. wish I could remember the name of that dip from science class...but looks like you can use *one* more drop- the dip is supposed to be above the line

Ditto, on both counts. I bought an inkjet cartridge refill kit off of ebay that came with a bunch of syringes - very handy But I prefer the classic glass syringes for fert dosing (markings don't wear off).nick_76 wrote:I use a syringe to fill mine. wish I could remember the name of that dip from science class...but looks like you can use *one* more drop- the dip is supposed to be above the line

Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
I think the bottom of the dip is on the very top of the line, but either way, for just sticking it in there and pulling it out, that's pretty good
edit: the thin white line is on the other side of the tube, the thick line next to the 5ml mark is the measuring mark
edit again: I just realized they are the same line, haha, but I think the surface tension has distorted it to make the one of the other side look a lot higher

Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
I remember battling with getting just the right amount of water in those blasted test tubes! AHHH!!! Thank goodness for syringes!
Quick question though, after you're done testing, do you guys just rinse the tubes by dumping out the stuff and filling them back with water, shaking the tubes, and dumping it back out again, several times?
Or do you wash with soap and stuff?
I tend to just dump, fill, shake, dump, fill shake, etc...

Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
Mostly dump fill shake and the colors already gone. The only ones that stick are the ammonia tubes that I let sit. Those if I remember get a pre-shake and that will prevent the problem or I have a tube cleaning brush that I use when shaking refuses yo get rid of the yellow/orange tint ><

Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
Hmmm....i find myself only using the nitrate tests from the whole freshwater test kit. LOL... thankfully those are the only things I use all 4 test tubes for. =P
Good to know that I clean em the same way as you KaraWolf

Re: Dat perfect 5ml dip
I use strips for nitrates. Who wants to shake a @#$* test tube for a whole minute!? Ain't nobody got time for that! Super-accurate readings on nitrates aren't necessary.
I use the PH, GH, and KH tests the most these days.

A couple dozen rinses, and every once in a while a run through the dishwasher with no soap.
