One question, how is the bypass in these units? I used to run Cascades and they had a ton of bypass.

I'm running the 500 w/ uv on one of my tanks.... I like it, it does its job well, but it's not an fx5 by any stretch....(I have both).

Re: Unboxing of the Aquatop CF400-UV
I have been running 2 400s for almost 2 years now, kinda wish I would have gone to the 500 though. My only complaint, you have to be careful when pulling the trays out the handles are pretty weak. I ditched the spray bars and just let them flow into the tank, I noticed when adding the bar it reduced the flow.
For the price of these they are a very solid filter, but like mentioned some of the parts are pretty flimsy sot as long as your careful with them they work fine!

I'd be interested in knowing why you feel that running carbon in the middle of the filter would get ride of the beneficial bacteria? Or how the uv portion of the unit doesn't kill off the beneficial bacteria in the filter as well?

Re: Unboxing of the Aquatop CF400-UV
Just wanted to put this out there to clear any confusion, the Aquatop CF400-UV, SunSun HW 403B, and ZenBlue HW 403B, products are all the same thing. To my understanding (other re-labelled brands are Grech, and Perfect)
ZenBlue:

SunSun:

Aquatop: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I'm aware that the link to the ZenBlue one has a slightly lower GPH...there may be other subtle differences, between the products, but yeah... I just find it odd that whoever makes these products, always re-name their brand name.
Here's a link that talks about these filters, and the rebranding, and whatnot:
