Decent pic of a baby RCS
I snapped this shot this morning. The little guy was right against the glass, it was perfect. My camera kinda sucks though so that's about as focused as I could get it. He/She is about 3mm long.

Nice pic. Is that in the tank at the store?

Re: Decent pic of a baby RCS
Yup, the little 10g. Last I checked there were 4-5 berried shrimp, one must have "given birth." It'll be neat when the others hatch. Current population is about 30 including all the babies I can find/count. I'm waiting until their numbers are greater to start adding fish, probably CPD, with the acceptance that many babies will be snacks.
Does anyone have any idea on average what % of eggs survive to actually grow up in a species only tank? I guess I'm curious if I can expect population to grow/sustain/decline with the addition of fish?
Thoughts?

Re: Decent pic of a baby RCS
I'm actually doing the opposite. Lol. I have a 5gal with CPDs that I've been adding shrimp to over the last couple weeks. I seen the first shrimplet a couple days ago, but hardly enough for a stable colony. I'd say wait until you see a bunch of new shrimplets on a weekly basis before adding any fish, to assure that the shrimp will keep their numbers up. Or you could raise bristlenose and RCS, it seems to work like a charm for me. I get monthly spawns and weekly shrimplets. Maybe I should move my CPDs to that tank though...
Sorry for my rant, got a little carried away. Lol

Good info, that's kind of the direction I was leaning. The next hurdle will be finding CPDs for a good price, any leads? I probably won't seriously consider them until Nov/Dec.

CPDs as in Celestial Pearl Danios? Since you're in Olympia, see if you can contact pbmax on here (just do a member search or something) and ask if he still has any for sale.
Your next best bet would be Cory at Aquarium Co-Op up in Edmonds.

Pbmax is where I got mine. Last I checked he only had his own breeding stock left, but you can always send him a PM.

I'm still a few months off, and CPDs aren't a certainty yet, but I'll keep all that in mind. Thanks folks.
