Plecos spawned

I just went down stairs and saw a pile of pleco eggs in my little nano tank. Which means I will hopefully have some baby long finned Green Dragon Bristlenose real soon. The tank has a few pests in it (damn snails) so hopefully they dont harm the eggs before they hatch. This will be my first pleco spawn.

If dad ever comes out of the log, I will get some pictures of them all.

Dont hold your breath on the dad leaveing. My albino bristlenose just spawned and the eggs hatched so i thought that he might leave nope. the babies left before he did. 3 survived that i can tell

But what's confusing is there is a pile of eggs out side of the log and he still won't come out of it.

Before my bristlenose males learned how to keep the eggs in their caves, they had a batch or two kicked out into the tank, so I would put the eggs into a breeder box or a net with an airstone to somewhat simulate the male fanning them and they developed fine that way.

How long before they hatch. Cichlids hatch in 4 days, are plecos similar?

If they survive, darn right I will be selling them. I see 1 inchers going for $15. Grant it I wont be selling them for that much, but for a good price. I paid a pretty penny for this pair, time to recoup my money.

Once they do hatch please let me know. I am also interested in buying some other of your fishes too! I need take mates for my arowana and oscars! Again Congratulation!

I would say if you look closely, they might be starting to hatch now.

I found these eggs outside the cave one morning -- I don't know how long they had been in the cave before they were kicked out.

Two days later you can see some of them are out.

This was five and a half days after putting the eggs in the breeder box. It doesn't take them long!

That particular male had the eggs come out of his log (the same one you are using) a few times before he (and I) got it right. I ended up elevating the open end a little bit and now that he's very experienced, there are no problems with it not being elevated.


One other thing... it's possible that he has more eggs inside the cave. I've had that happen as well, where some of the eggs were kicked out, but not all of them.

Awesome, thanks Betty. I wonder that too, cause he stays in that log still. I'm not home but i will check the eggs. Not sure how long they were in there before coming out, but today is day 4 of them being outside the log

Betty i was wondering the same thing as well i would guess there are more eggs inside the cave. Mine was very adiment about not leaveing the cave even after his babys did.Betty have you had a problem with the males staying in caves after babies. Mine wont leave the caves i have now that he has had the eggs. He use to be all over the tank now he is just in another cave i have. Also madness i would also be interested in 1 or 2 of those babies. I have some albino bristlenose babys right know and i really like the bristlenose plecos.

Well it was a successful spawn. I have counted 25 hatched so far, all scattered throughout the tank. Still a pile of about 10 that haven't hatched yet. I'm so excited, its my first pleco spawn. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ubermunch, my males do stay with their caves most of the day, but they also come out to eat and explore around the tank from time to time.

I'd also be interested in a few. How exciting !

Yes, long fin Green Dragons. I will keep all of you in mind. Their clutches have been very small. The first had only 7, the second 5, this last one there seems to be a few more than 7.

How big are the fry now? What size will you be selling them at. I had my eyes on The aquabid pricing of these fish. A breeding pair was like $60 (not including the $35 live arrival guarantee). And the fry they sell are usually only two weeks old, talk about losing a bunch of babies

I recently sold my first batch of juvenile bristlenose. Brown/black and albinos @ 1-1.5" for extremely cheap. Kicking myself a little for that one, they all sold within two days! Kicking myself even harder because that was my only batch that the pair had before the male died of unknown causes (he was 3 years old, how old can they get?). I of course kept some of my batch for future mating, preferably with other genetics.

I would also be interested in getting some of these fish.

The first batch is about 1", the second is a bit smaller, the small guys are about .5". This pair cost me $100. So I am hoping that I can recoup the expense. LOL

I will be letting some go in a couple weeks. I need to move things around a bit.

CrazedAce, I've had my oldest male bristlenose for over 6 years and he was already an adult when I got him.

I wish my male would come out of the cave long enough to get a good picture of him. His tail fin is as long as his body, absolutely stunning. The females arent as elaborate as the males but she still has some pretty nice looking fins herself.

Congrats! I felt sooo excited when my LF/albino/ bristles spawned. If i remember right they had around 50 the first spawn, then like 120 their second.

Heres a picture of mine when they spawned. unfortunately this was like two years ago and i no longer have either parents or babies
