**FREE Presentation - Rare and Unusual E. African Species by Lawrence Kent** - Presented by GSAS
The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS) is pleased to sponsor a free presentation about some of the lesser known East African species by Lawrence Kent. We hear a lot about the cichlids of Lakes Malawi and Tanganyika, but what about the fish in those smaller lakes in East Africa? Those lakes which are rarely visited and even more rarely collected; yet are home to some fascinating endemic fish.
Lawrence Kent is an employee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which sends him often to Africa to support its poverty-alleviation projects. Lawrence takes advantage of these trips to look for interesting fish, especially cichlids. During this talk, he'll tell us about collecting rare and unusual species in some of the "other" lakes of East Africa and the struggle to identify them accurately. He has written extensively about his travels including 10 articles for Tropical Fish Hobbyist (TFH), The Darter (MASI newsletter), and others.
The presentation will be Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 at 7:30PM at Seattle Pacific University; Otto Miller Hall; Room 109; West Nickerson Street and 3rd Avenue West
Doors will open about 6:30 PM for a 'social hour'; the meeting will start at about 7:30PM
The lecture will be followed by a short auction
Open to the public, no entrance fee
Family friendly but no childcare provided
Free parking, accessible building
No furry or feathered pets
