Hello from Shoreline
Howdy,
Just found this site from some random internet clicking and think I will stick around for a while.
I just recently got back into the hobby. In my teens I had plenty of aggressive stuff - Oscars, Jacks, Gars, Piranha, etc... This time around I am enjoying the more peaceful planted community route. Interested in getting into some breeding too.
Here is a quick shot of one of my tanks - a planted 180 gallon set up at the studio.
Currently housing: Geophagus Jurupari El Norte (1), Royal Spotted Trout (1), Macropodus Ocellatus - Dark Knight Paradise Fish (3), Angels (3), Rainbows (4), Roseline Sharks (10), Siamese Algae Eater (who thinks he is a Roseline) (1), Bettas (2 males), Congo Tetras (9), Cardinal Tetras (16), Cherry Barbs (9), Pleco (2), Otocinclu (10), Honey Gourami (1), Red Fire Dwarf Gourami (1), Nerite Snails (10)
Anyway, just thought I would say hello and introduce myself.

Very nice tank shot! Also interesting list of fish. Where did you get the royal spotted trout? They are very impressive looking fish and I have a tank Im looking to stock.

DMD123, the royal spotted trout came with the tank, but I think he originally came out of Aqua Serene is Eugene, Oregon.
I think the closest place they can be found is at the The Cichlid Exchange in Portland.
Mine is still a juvenile, it doesn't have the crazy coloring of the adults yet, same with my Dark Nights. I am hoping to visit some friends soon in PDX and bring home a couple more royal spotted trout.

Re: Hello from Shoreline
Roy, the substate is Seachem Flourite Black Sand. I love this stuff for plants, just push the roots in and it sucks in around them.
...but, if you have neurotic swimmers or diggers, it is definately not the best choice. Here are a couple shots of what happened after if I tried putting 4 of my clown loaches (4" - 5") into this tank. The next morning when the lights came on it was like a fog bank moved in. I thought, maybe a weekend in there and they would calm down - never happened, they just kept going nuts. They never uprooted anything but the front of the tank looked like a bunch of sand dunes and they dug caves under the driftwood which caused them to list. The loaches are back home in one of my other tanks with their buddies and the tank is clear again.
