Re: Glass Banging Hogaboomorum!!
When I kept my midas in smaller tanks they were always glass bangers. They really do mellow in larger tanks. Thats why when I read people are having problems with Amph. fish in a community the first thing I think is the tank is too small, which most of the times it is.

Re: Glass Banging Hogaboomorum!!
i really think its the personality of the specific fish. the devil was much more aggressive in the 240 and wasnt a glassbanger when put in a 75 but the hoga was a much more peacful fish in the 240 and and now is a glass banger in a 75. i will also note that in the community they were both the dominant fish in the tank but i do think amphilophus are a great community fish if raised properly and given the proper sized tank

His father was a banger big time. It took about 4 months for him and I to have a coming to Jesus agreement. Once he and his female paired up. it mellowed him out a bit. It got to the point to where I could hand feed him. I think that they just like the interaction. My WC Devil is starting to do that also.
On a side note. I know that your attached to him, but I got what we thought was one of my off spring males from Seattle23, 34, whatever his # is, LOL. I am beginning to think its a female. If so, would you trade your male for a smaller off spring and your choice of anything else? I want to pair my female up with a male.

watched your video the other day and thought that male could be female by body shape and fin trailers. couldnt get rid of him though, he fits perfectly in the "show" tank in the living room and has turned into one of my favorites for sure. have you tried to pair her up with your other beast male?

Re: Glass Banging Hogaboomorum!!
Well no need to worry about finding a male, it turns out that mine is a male. I had it sharing a tank with my 11" Xilo, 11" M&F RTM, and my Yellow Dovii 7" male and 5" female. Anyway the Hoga and Xilo were buds and cleaning and hanging out together, which lead me to think that it may be a female. Then today the male Dovii just went off on the Hoga, pounding it repeatedly in the side. It was so fast the Hoga didnt even have time to move. Its a good thing I saw this, cause that Dovii would have killed that Hoga. So I removed it and placed it in with my female Devil and Red Isletas. Went out before lights out and the Isletas and the Hoga were about to start laying eggs. Tubes dropped and beating up on tank mates. LOL
So hopefully some more little Hogas soon.

good that he turned out male. it amazes me how aggressive doviis can be. my male and female are about 6" and have taken over the 8x30" 240 and have my other male devil and zo hiding in a matter of about 5 hours lol.
