Rehoming Humane Society pet question
So, as part of this divorce I'm going through I have to rehome all my pets. I got my dog about a year ago from the Seattle Humane Society. Part of the contract I signed with them was that I would return Teddy if I couldn't keep him or that I would contact them to "discuss transferring ownership to a third party". Has anyone had experience with some part of this situation before? If I can find him a good home, I'd prefer to do that - I'd assume the Humane Society wouldn't be terribly difficult to deal with over this, but I just have no idea.

I'm pretty sure you technically have to return them, a contract is a contract. But...they don't know one way or the other what happens to the pet.

Best way is to be honest, let them know and find a third party home.

If you call and "discuss" a third party home with them, there's always a chance they'll say no and try to get you to bring the pets back.
But I agree with Naso^

Thanks for the input guys. I prefer to just be upfront with it, and really the most important thing to me is for him to have a good home. And if they say they have to find a home for him instead of me, I will just have to deal with it.

If you do find them a new home please be EXTREMELY thorough run a background check, look online for the contact number to see if it has been used in a scam i have heard of many people scamming for dogs and...you know the rest.

That's so sad that you have to go through this. Best of luck finding him a good home. (What breed is he?)

He's a Pomeranian, and aparently forever 2 When we got him last year he was 2 and I just took him to the vet for some shots and they told me he was 2. lol He's an awesome little dog - a total lap dog and a momma's boy. I'm gonna miss him.

Good luck with whatever you do. I can't imagine having to part with one of my dogs. At least he's not pit or Border collie or a big male black dog. Those guys are the first to be put down. My deepest sympathies for you and your pup.

Pits are the best dogs with the worst reputations.

Why would the divorce cause you to give up your pets?!

Re: Rehoming Humane Society pet question
Thanks Ratlova. Naso, I've known some pits that were truely great dogs, and some that could have been great if it weren't for the owners - just like tons of other breeds. It's sad that their reputation is so slanted.
Gryphon - I'm moving back to the east coast to be closer to my family and friends. I'm a full time care giver for my disabled son & I'm going to have to go back to work and enroll as a student (I can't support us doing the job I previously did due to carpal tunnel) as well. I won't have the time to give to Teddy or any $ to spare beyond the very basics. I absolutely don't want to give up any of my pets, but I am just not seeing a way to make it work otherwise right now.
