Pleco and a Red Devil?
Can my 6" plecco go in the same tank as my 8" Red Devil? I think he might eat it but was wondering if anyone had some experience with this. He's REALLY aggressive and attacks anything that enters the tank. He'll even attack things that aernt alive like rocks and wood just to see if they might possibly be food. He also likes to attack fingers, hands, faces, seriously he attacks anything that gets close to the tank. Also he's in a 55 right now.

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
Well the problem is, he is in too small of a tank for tank mates.... even a pleco unfortuently.... what will happen is he will probably get injured by the plecos spike/bones... or the pleco will become so stressed it will die..... Now that your midas/devil has been alone he considers the tank his place... Unless you were to put him in another tank with different surroundings and a fish already in there it would be impossible.... I had the same kind of fish, same thing happened to me.

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
sounds like you answered your own question. and an 8" red devil is gonna need a larger tank soon. might mellow out if given a little more room

Unfortunately thats the biggest one I can fit in my room. How long do you think he has until he needs a bigger tank and what size do you suggest. Aside from killing everything he seems content.

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
He can live in a 55gal... just uncomfortably... you want him more comfortable, you need a min. 75gal... they arent much bigger than a 55gal.. just 6 inches wider, this makes a world of difference to your fish.
min tank for midas/red devil/oscars etc... 4' long, 18+" wide, and 18" tall

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
go for a 75. will appreciate the extra width and will be easier to maintain water parameters with more water volume. and id upgrade asap

It seems that the "free" fish always cost the most

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
Give the pleco a place to hide from the fish. I just tried out a bristle nose in my 210g that was too big to be eaten but small none the less. It got picked on and partially eaten....

Re: Pleco and a Red Devil?
if you put them in the new tank at the same time i really dont think you will have any problem at all.... why he is so aggressive now is he has a smaller tank, and that is his area.... all his! you put him in a new tank that even has a few other fish in it, you might see a completly change his temperment.... or it could go horribly wrong and he could kill everyone... but, i would bet on the other one to be honest... a 90gal will be big enough for a couple nice cichlids in there.
