Scratches in Acrylic

What have you had the most success with for getting scratches out of acrylic. Sandpaper, buffing solution, etc? I've read all the how-tos online - though the "official" and first hand reports differ on circular motion vs grid-like motion (vertical & horizontal) - so I have the general idea of what to do. Now, I want to know what you guys have done.

I found liquid novus 1,2,3, worked okay for light scratches but didn't remove anything significant.

James at Envision Acrylics recommends the Micro Mesh kit for scratch removal followed by Novus for polishing.
