125 gallon Setup
Nothing toooo crazy here!
Just a 125 gallon long build!
Its a old tank i didn't part with that im setting up!
Didn't document it at the beginning but what so interesting about sanding and repainting a pine stand! lol
So here she is sitting on the floor while I prep and paint the stand
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Stand all finished and dry and into position! The purpose was to divid the living room from the Front Entry but still be able to see who comes into the house!
My idea was to kinda act as a tank between too rooms thats inserted into a wall! Well besides it actually being in the wall!

Now came the fun part! Im building onto a existing canopy and raising it farther off of the tank! I Brought the top of the canopy flush with the top of the brick wall to help enhance the perception! As you can see i got antsy and i have filled it with water and i have decorated with rock! lol

As it sits now the doors are on the canopy! All i have left to do is box in the front and a side of the tank and then ive gotta give her a good sanding and repaint it the same as the stand!
Ill make a shelf that the Six foot Halide light fixture sit on!
Ill also lay a sheet of plywood down just below the canopy doors to partition the canopy off so that i will have storage for food and what not on the top half of the canopy!
Im still awaiting for Fx5 filteration and then there will be fish!
More updates to come!

Re: 125 gallon Setup
Thanks you guys!
Fish is going to be a variety of Mbuna from lake malawi breed from fellow members.
Maybe some Syno. Cats
Some Nerites
Some Rabbit Snails
Down the road:
Im thinking i might get away with a shell dweller colony on the open water side of the tank!
What you guys think about the aggression! Im hopping it would be alright!
Or even a Gobi/sand sifter trio for the same side of the tank! Something like:
Eretmodus cyanostictus "Isanga"
Enantiopus melanogenys "kilesa"
Xenotilapia sp. 'kilesa'

Re: 125 gallon Setup
The Enant/Xeno group won't work with mbuna. Not nearly aggressive enough. The mbuna will simply run them over and stress them to death.
I'm not sure how something like occelatus might work. They have the aggressive nature at least.
Of course you are mixing lakes, something I never recommend (I know it can work, I've seen it work, I just don't recommend it - and I've seen it not work; many, many times).

Re: 125 gallon Setup

Re: 125 gallon Setup
I hear you about mixing lakes! I can guarantee all of us have fish with other fish that shouldnt even be together! Just adding syno. cats would to a malawi tank would be crossing the line even tho there really is no major reason you cant do it! Hell we even add species like plecos that arent even native to the same region!
I figure if the water parameters are right on or damn near close and there temperaments equal out and adding the species in doubt serves a purpose well why not?
I figured a Tang. Gobis have the same dietary needs and live in almost identical environment as mbunas and have a different behavior and quality that would mix things up!
Thanks for the Thumbs up Larry!
What species are you referring to as rock dwellers?
