Bettas Spawned
Well, last week I put my male crowntail betta next to the female crowntail, and he made a nice bubblenest. I've never breed bettas before, so I thought I'd let them do the work....lol
So I conditioned them with blood worms and raised the temp to 82 degrees. Then last night I put the female with the male, and they chased eachother back and forth. After a while, they went under the bubble nest and the male wrapped his body around her and out popped some eggs. They both picked them up from the bottom, and spit them into the bubble nest. So, we'll see what happens!
WIll post pics soon!

Re: Bettas Spawned
Congrats! Make sure to take the parents out and have about 50 seperate small tanks to put the babies in when they're a couple weeks old
Re: Bettas Spawned
Thanks, and done! It was the first time these two have spawned, and the female did great! she looks like she's been in a drunken fight, but she's not dead! the male also did a great job, and he picked all of the eggs up right away. Since it was her first time she only dropped about 30 eggs.
Re: Bettas Spawned
Sweet. I miss betta breeding, it was such a fun hobby. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions
Re: Bettas Spawned
Enjoy. They were in the upper corner, so it was hard to get some good shots.

Thank you!
Re: Bettas Spawned
I can't really see the female; what type is she? If she's not a crowntail you'll most likey have lots of combtail fry. I can't wait!!! Both make a good looking couple

Thats awesome dude! I thought you wouldnt have fun with a ten gallon tank when you move! Well, I stand corrected! Great job pairing them up, sounds like you did it textbook... and it worked really well! awesome!

Thanks Joe. I didn't either, and it was way easier than cichlids. But oh well, it was really cool!
Re: Bettas Spawned
Well, I went to WSU orientation for 3 days, and I came home and the bubble nest is gone, and there are no babies anywhere....hmmmmm.. Lesson learned.
Re: Bettas Spawned
I'm sorry Mikey. It's not uncommon for new breeders to lose the fry on the first few tries. Was there a filter in the tank? Were the parents removed?
Re: Bettas Spawned
Yeah that's what I've heard. I mean they will learn after a few tries. I'll just try to keep more of an eye on the nest next time
Re: Bettas Spawned
Oh bummer, just read about this... hey, I was thinking about your ten gallon limit in school..... you can start breeding pretty much any dwarfs in a ten gallon! that would be sweet. plus do it planted... there is a ton of cool stuff you can do.
Of course if your into the betta's now, thats always cool too.

lol Dude, you have no idea how much I miss my cichlids. Bettas are cool looking, but they don't have the personalities that the cichlids do. I was thinking about that 10 gallon limit as well, and I think I'm going to go with shell dwellers. They have the personalities I'm looking for, and are harder to spawn than bettas But I'm going to order some Peacocks when we meet up, and have them for the summer. haha
Re: Bettas Spawned
dont forget our sponsor got shell dwellers too... and at a incredible price... maybe should put in an order for them sunday too, so you dont got to pay shippin later.....
