Don Conkel's farm
Check out this link. The top 2 are a power point of Conkels farm. Very interesting and it makes me want to start my own. BUT, it looks like a **** load of work.

Wow the size of some of those beastly Argenteas in the concrete above ground set ups was amazing. Using the large Rubbermaid containers is a pretty good idea, much cheaper than an actual tank that size. makes me want to start digging up my back yard.

That is a pretty amazing setup he has, I can't even imagine how much it cost to run that operation..

cant wait till i can do my ponds. ill probably have a native pond around 2000 gallons and then another one around 2000 gallons of cichlids that i can divide up for raising fry and monsters at the same time. of course itll be a while but i think next summer at ill get the native one up in my backyard. don conkel has done masses for fish farming in the hobby

Re: Don Conkel's farm
Ya I agree Fishman, I am going to set up several ponds this Summer. All of my fry and grow outs will be moving outside, and possibly all my pairs. Everything I have read regarding fish being pond raised are absolutely amazing. Even if just for the Summer months.

Re: Don Conkel's farm
its all in the larger volume of water equals more stable water conditions. thats why i turn over my 240 1.5 times a week with new water and those fish are pushing an inch a month growth rate

Re: Don Conkel's farm
If you have the room to set up ponds it would be worth it even though the time they would be out there wouldn't be long in the summers.

What about the Herons and racoons eating your fish out of the ponds/ Those guys are always raiding Koi ponds around here

I would totally use the netting that you use on fruit trees or chicken wire to build something that would be difficult for the critters to get into. Maybe a little barbed wire and electric fence would keep the racoons out.

They make pond netting or tops that allow the sun and insects to enter but know critters or birds. Lord knows I have a lot of critters around my house.

I dont have small children. And if the small children get into my yard, than they deserve to get bit.

Re: Don Conkel's farm
I meant small children in the neighborhood eating your fish. They are worse than racoons!
