Black Belt
Here are some pics of the Black Belt I recently got from madness.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I was reluctant to add a fish called a "Black Belt" because I pictured a little Chuck Norris butt kicking fish rather than the lame description that it really is. This particular fish was bottom of the chain of three Black Belts and was the easy going one of the bunch. In my tank it is the dominant one of the smaller fish. It does show that it is boss to the Pearsei, and Argentea but not in an overly aggressive way. The 'chasing' is kind of more 'creepy stalker' rather that killer. Its colors seem a lot more intense than when I got it, probably due to the fact its higher up the chain now. I see a lot of potential for this fish as it grows, with the reds intensifying. Very nice addition to my mix.
I know there are a few others out there who have these fish, why not post pics of your here for everyone to see.

You heard the man, give it back!!!! Lol j/k. It looks very good, great colors, and now something that finally puts that argentea in its place.

Re: Black Belt
But if it goes back it will just be the little ugly duckling again... It needs to be dominant to color up.

Re: Black Belt
This one fish is different than the other two that madness has. The others are much darker and more aggressive (Most likely males). So when we were catching this one we decided it was a girl. Not really sure yet on its sex but I am happy with how its getting along with the others. Cant get it to surface feed Omega One pellets yet, will peck at a few sinking ones. Eats most of the frozen treats.

Re: Black Belt
Ya, there is hardly any red on the chin/throat of the other 2. Lots of bluing and a bit of purple.

Re: Black Belt
Knowing madness, they are some rare hard to find black belt that everyone is looking for and he is the only one who has them. But we know the rest of the story... he has two males.
Sorry madness probably reminds you of the whole RTM issue... Any luck finding your male yet?

Re: Black Belt
I read somewhere that black belts lose a lot of their color when they grow. But mine is like... 11" I think and still has a lot of color. Although I think it was brighter when it was a little smaller. Its about 2 years old and not 14" so I'm assuming by size its a female. I like it though there kinda common, but that dosent bother me at all. I think there common because there really good looking.

Thats right, I have the only one. And nope on the male RTM. At least a large one. I may take in a couple that are around 4", but my luck they will both be females.

Re: Black Belt
Apparently I have officially got enough fish now. Why? Because I can not come up with a name for the black belt. Since I dont know the sex, I dont want to give it a name that defines it as a male or female. So what do I name it?

Re: Black Belt
It has a funny stalker like personality. Hard to describe, but its not the fist fish you tend to spot in the tank. Hangs out in the back. When it chases it does so in a very slow methodical way.
Dont know if that helps. But it almost made me want to name it "Creepy"

Took a few pics today of the other 2. If yours is a male, call it Buffalo Bill.

Re: Black Belt
Sold the Black Belt. It was too aggressive with my Pearsei. After the incident that fish_n_vw had with his BB killing his Pearsei, I decided to not take the risk with mine.
Its funny that I call the BB too aggressive when my Pearsei is housed with an 11" male Midas. The Midas is a total puppy dog and so easy going it makes for easy arrangements. We will see what happens when the Pearsei and Argentea grow up some more...
madness and I had thought that this was a girl when we compared it to the two other BB in his tank. fish_n_vw most likely has a male so... Yep he bought it and we will see if they get down to business
So keep your eyes peeled for baby Black Belts for sale...

Re: Black Belt
Had stuff I needed to get done around the house. You know the fun of owning a home!
We have had issues with our grinder pump and funny thing is we caught it 2 weeks before the warranty was up . They have been out twice already and the issue is still not fixed
We baby that thing, I dont put my fish water down the drain, I put it out on the lawn, so that we dont cause any excessive use or the possibility of a rock or something getting in there. We dont put grease or other things down the drain that can cause problems but we still having issues!

You mean the garbage disposal? Sounds like you need an electrician. Didnt they just replace it?

Re: Black Belt
No garbage disposal...
We are on sewer but it has to go uphill, and apparently poop dont flow up hill so you have a 750g tank buried in the yard with a pump that grinds all the waste up and pushes out to the sewer line.
No electrician would want to touch that!

Re: Black Belt
Yeah, it was fun to meet to meet fishman, always fun hanging with madness. It was a real pleasure to see dmd tanks, they are both stunning, very well kept, pictures don't do them justice. It was nice chatting with dave and his wife (who by the way said I was crazy) for a while. Then showing up late to madness' with a threat of "come get your fish of I'm keeping it!!!". I got home a little late around 9:15 and aclimated the two fish to there new tanks. Both went in and right away established them selves as the dominant fish in there tanks. Although that wasent tough for the 7" black belt because the only thing in the tank with it (hopefully her) is a 2 inch convict. But it was a little more difficult for the istlanum, it went rounds with my pair of sieboldii off and on for an hour before the istlanum backed off. Then it was lights out. I have been at work all day so don't know what's going on. I should be home around 4 and I will start a new thread then.

Re: Black Belt
Ehhh, its part of who we are. Yeah it is a punk though, it went in and claimed an area as its own right away, problem was my pair of sieboldii had claimed that same area a few days earlier (hopefully to get some baby making action on). So it had a bit of a squable, but soon relized that the sieboldii are not giving up the spot, so it went to the other end of the tank chased everything away and settled into a flower pot for the night.

Re: Black Belt
Sounds like everyone is doing well. Fishman and his Jags are doing great, and the (wife ) are doing great. VW and his new toys seem to be doing well. And D and his poop seem to be getting along. Well maybe not as much as he would like.

Re: Black Belt
HEY LEAVE MY POOP OUT OF IT!
We have lived in our place 8 years now and had to replace the first grinder pump at the 6 yr mark. It was cheaper to put a new one in with a warranty than to risk a rebuild. So these stupid things are like $2500 so a little mad!
