Re: Blue dolphins
Hey Aaron,
I sent you a PM last night regarding this question.
The red tail should be fine. I took a look at my fry and some have yellow to an orange-red tail. Many sites state that the fry have a yellow tail, and some even mention the tail can be orange to red (Not sure if this is a way to determine sex, but the tail will eventually turn blue once the rest of the body turns blue; around 2 inches).
Keep us updated with their progress!!!

Re: Blue dolphins
Wanted to post another update.
I checked my fry again. A few have a sharp-red color to their tail (as opposed to the common yellow coloring). However, in my larger fry, the red seems to be receeding and the anal-fin is turning a translucent blue. I hope this is a sign that they will start turning blue!!!!!

Re: Blue dolphins
Blue Dolphins (cyrtocara moorii) are one of the most peaceful Hap cichlids.
They usually do well in a peacock/hap tank.

Moori are peaceful. Males have a bigger hump on the head. I got 15 of em @ 2.5" size.

Re: Blue dolphins
I need a bigger Mix tank, looking to get a few of the Blue dolphins. some odd reason I like them....
Re: Blue dolphins
I keep mine in a 240g species only tank. there are 17 females and 3 males. Once they start breeding they keep cranking out the fry, I've got 4 tanks full of their fry right now. Yes the little guys have a bit of yellow/red on their anal fin and it fades with age.
They are pretty docile, need silica sand to sift through and really don't need much for decor.
Males fins are more pointed than females. There are more ways to look and see but that's the easiest one to describe.
My largest 3 are a good 9"
