Hard Water Stain Cleaning Empty Hard Water Stain Cleaning

Post  VsKitchen 2011-08-19, 11:32

So, I read online last night that CLR could be used to clean hard water stains on aquarium equipment with no detrimental effects to the livestock. This to me sounds like one of the crazy internet too good to be true types of things. Thoughts anyone?

I believe you could use CLR on equipment that is not in use. In fact, lots of people use ammonia as well. The key is to rinse it all away before filling the tank for use.

I use vinegar, and had better results then using CLR. I was cleaning tops where i get the most buildup.

I'm a vinegar user too! For the hard to remove buildup, I will lay the tank on the side andlay paper towels or sponges soaked in vinegar on it for a few minutes and let the acetic acid do as much of the work as possible. If I need scrubbing beyond a cloth, I use a green green scouring pad designated soley for my aquarium maintenance. Always rinse thoroughly of course!

I've just been using vinegar myself. I have come across lots of opinions and bits of advice on that, though like most of what you see online you have to take some of it with a grain of salt. Very Happy

I would think if you used something like CLR I would heavily soak it in water for a few days to make sure no residue is left behind.
