These are true monsters very high bodied, and thick, its not uncommon for males to reach the 17 inch mark and females are a bit smaller. And yes king I'm really stoked.

Re: H. Pearsei
This is an old post that I thought I would bring back up. Why? Because I am a proud owner of a pearsei now.
With the recent group buy from Cichlid Connection I got a wild caught Rio Zapote, Mexico pearsei that was sexed as male, he is about 7".
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
He is pretty shy right now and it doesnt help that my argentea female is such a pill, but he is starting to get more comfortable.
What got me motivated to get one of these guys was this video: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Also some good info on this site: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
These guys get BIG, males upwards to 16-17" , so you will need a BIG tank. They are considered "gentle giants" but seem to hold their own if confronted.
So far fish_n_vw and myself are the only ones I know on this site who are raising these and madness has been talking about getting one because it is the only fish he is missing in his collection.
So if you have a large tank and want a large peaceful fish, the pearsei is for you.
This is what an adult looks like, not my pictures by the way, all from Aqua Mojo:

Re: H. Pearsei
Almost forgot, in the tradition of naming my fish, my new pearsei is Frank.
I chose the name because of the blue eyes after "old blue eyes" himself, Frank Sinatra.
Waiting on fish_n_vw to show up with more info on his... they have to be at least 9"+ now, from what Ive seen of them.

Re: H. Pearsei
Lol, madness your great..... yeah I do have a bit of info on them although mine have developed hole in the head and I'm pretty upset about it. They have been loads of fun great personality big and fast growing. I think my largest is more like 10 maybee 11 inches. He's big. From what I have read they don't spawn untill there about 2 years old and by that time there usually about 12 to 14 inches. There was a really good right up on these guys and I will hunt it down for anyone intrested in learning more.
I hope this hith clears, otherwise I'm gonna be putting them down and starting with some of your guys siblings. I don't want to spend 150 bucks just to replace fish I already have, but I want attractive and good looking fish. Here's a few pics to compare to the ones up top.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
That one is from about 3 months ago. Soda can was for size comparison, these others were takin at the same time as that one, so about 3 months ago.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And these are now, they suck because I'm impatiant. I normaly take like 300 pictures to get 1 I like but here I took about 20. These show the hith, I'm a bit disapointed in myself. I don't even know how it happened but, whatever, live and learn I guess. I just put a lot of time and work into these fish. A lot of money in food and extra water changes to make them grow faster. It just suckes because I dident know what I did so it not even a learning experiance. Just one that pisses me off.

Anyway hope you enjoy the pics and I find that write up on them if anyone is looking for info.

Re: H. Pearsei
I hope it does clear up, patience isent on of my strong points, but I have waited this long what's a little longer. I figure if it dosent I will just breed em, raise there fry, and then feed the parents to spyral.
You know spyral right? The 90 year old that I feel is sitting in front of his aquarium all the time with a fishing line and some bait in the water..... I wonder if he uses a bober??????

I kind of want a green bay snook, not the goofy red ones. That one I would name Snooki

Re: H. Pearsei
Back 20+ years ago when I raised fish I had a Midas that was named Flipper. Ive always named my fish, just one of those things.
If I had as many fish as madness I would probably just come up with a generic name for each tank like Germany, France or Spain, since the number of fish he owns is more than the population of some countries.

Re: H. Pearsei
I like the Seattle Snook, but they need better starters and coaching. The Green Bay "Cheese Head" Snook always seem to out perform.
I wish I would have ordered some on our last group buy, but they were just so small. I want to be able to put them in the big boy tank and not have to grow them out.
There is just something cool about them... (Not my pic)

Re: H. Pearsei
Forgot to say to fish_n_vw, your pearsei are looking good, can already tell the one is going to be a brute, with the bit of head bump happening. I like the pic with the soda can, gives a good perspective of size. Like madness said be patient with the hole in the head, Its surface damage that will grow back in. Good work with your fish!

Re: H. Pearsei
Frank looks great. I found another Argentea pill today. She shares a tank (she is 4" @ WC from APFP) with several larger fish. She constantly nips the fins of his 11" and 13" gars. Maybe Argentea females are brain dead.

Re: H. Pearsei
They just seem to be feisty. Mines a trouble maker but she also has a huge personality, a lot more responsive than even my Midas. Now that the pearsei is eating anything and everything maybe with a bit more size on him she will mellow a bit. Then again that does not stop her from messing with the 11" midas.

Re: H. Pearsei
With the way the little guy eats , he is going to grow fast! 16" fish will be here before you know it.
He worried me at first because he was not even going for the frozen treats like the bloodworms and brine shrimp. He did not eat for days and looked skinny. Now the guy eats everything and anything just like the argentea. He seems to have some bulk on him now and I swear he has already grown. His little personality is just like you had described, very Oscar like. He is not scared of the big Midas any more but he still lets the Argentea chase him off.
I will continue to post pics of the "little" guy as he grows. Dont forget to keep taking pictures of yours too!

A few updated pics of Frank the pearsei
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
These were two weeks ago, and it looks like he has grown a ton since then. Little guy has a ton of attitude and looks like his head is starting to get the little bump in it.

Thanks.
Yours were just starting to really look like the beastly fish they were to become...
You've seen my little guy recently and he has definitely put on some girth since these photos. He is a little pig!

Nobody had any when I wanted mine so I got in on a group buy at cichlid connection. I needed a bigger one to get along with my Midas so I bought the largest they had to offer at the time which was a wild caught 7". He was a bit pricey compared to a regular tank bred but I needed it to be a little bigger. Keep you eyes open we have been talking about another group buy.....
