edit: now that I've read the article, I think I am going to do this in the little 3 gallon I got recently. Its just going to be a QT tank so I don't care about algae.

My plan is to manage a sort of nursery like system. I have a 29 gallon, but the light for it is very poor. However, I have this nice little 2.5 with a strong light. My hope is to get some of the starts I have to start growing well, then transplant them once they are a little bulkier.

Well, all I ended up doing was the organic Miracle Gro potting soil. Used a screen to get the big chunks out. Overall I am impressed! Didn't take long, was cheap, and all I did was cover it in some black sand. Highly recommend doing this.

im about to start building a 2.5 nano and a 16 guppy tank hopefully i can try this method as it may save me money in the long run. also looking to find some cheap plants if either of you have any.
