Betta lover from Bremerton
Hello! I'm Sabrina from Bremerton. I just found the forums a few days ago. I'm trying to locate a camera (with working batteries) to take pictures of my babies to post. lol I'm a betta hobbyist just getting back into the hobby after a few years. Right now, I only have two fish and a ten-gallon tank (no supplies really) for breeding. I just bought a lovely opaque white HM male from Petco last week and the most adorable chocolate/MG crowntail female the next day. I'm kindof a treasure hunter when it comes to buying fish. I like to find the more unusual or uncommon colors. Buying imported breeding stock is just way beyond my means atm. lol
My white male isn't perfect and has some fin damage from getting to the pet store, but he's a very clean opaque with no red wash anywhere and a true HM. I'm looking forward to seeing what kinda babies he'll produce. He IS a pain in the butt to feed, though. lol I don't have my live foods yet, even just baby brine shrimp. I can get him to take a couple granules at a time (feeding him every couple hours right now) but he won't eat his fill and he won't touch frozen brine shrimp. I've tried scrounging up wild live foods, but don't have much around the yard. I only found enough bloodworms for one feeding (those were a pain to catch) and he refuses to eat anything with actual legs or wings. He looks to be about 4 to 6 months old, not quite full size yet.
My female really is adorable! She's a very dark-body chocolate color (yellow fins with dark edges) crowntail with a bit of green iridescence to some of her scales. She seems just 3 months old, only about an inch long body. She does the cutest things. lol Thankfully, she LOVES the frozen brine shrimp and even tries to fight her way through the glass to get the portion I try to feed the male. lol She'll eat just about anything that moves too. But she won't eat processed foods. *shrug*
I'm on the lookout for any other new additions I can find, but don't have much cash to work with atm. Meanwhile, I'm growing these guys out for breeding. They're both completely free of any red, so I'm curious what color babies they'd give me. lol I do know a little about betta genetics in regard to color, finnage, etc....enough to kinda know what I'm doing with experimental breeding and I love to experiment with these guys. I'll try to get pics soon to post.

read the time stamp, genius, this was well before the POTM thread. Hey, do you know how to check your PM's?

My bad. So I didn't see this until after. Are you always this way? Or did you just forget to take your medication this morning? And I do know how to check my PMs, but did you really expect me to respond to the name calling?

In that case...GOD, I hope you don't bored often.
I try to avoid responding in kind as I AM the newbie here and I don't care to get myself kicked from the first forum I've found for fish hobbyists in my area.

Yeah, well...hostility tends to put me on the defensive. Took me awhile to thaw out.

Well, with this weather here in Seattle, you would thaw out in like seconds.

It isn't exactly "cool" here in Bremerton, either. lol At least it's not approaching 90 in the house today.

Re: Betta lover from Bremerton
lol Thanks. I didn't see a lot of detailed information on bettas posted by other members except just linked or copied from other sites. Since bettas have always kinda been my specialty in the hobby, I thought I'd share what I know.

Can a Betta live with a frog?

Re: Betta lover from Bremerton
*has this sudden image of a PRINCE kissing a frog for some reason*
Personally, I've never tried it. If you mean an african dwarf frog, then I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be an issue. In general, individual bettas make rather nice community fish unless there is something in the tank they THINK is another betta (happens sometimes with fancy goldfish lol).

Re: Betta lover from Bremerton
I just think a fancy half moon Beta and a African dwarf would be cool in like a 5 gallon tank

Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem at all.
