Re: something blue
I forget the name but it is one of those whacky cross breeds like a flowerhorn. I think it is bred with a Jack Dempsey. Might turn a dark blue when mature.

that looks right. my buddy had tried them before & said they were a bit on the sensitive side until they get about 3 inches long & that they grow slowly.

Re: something blue
They are beautiful fish, it's amazing that something this beautiful comes from the wild and is not mad made/hybrid! I haven't owned any but I hear they are pretty delicate and hard to care for as babies. Good luck! and nice price too! I have seen them at the LFS for $40 at that size~

Re: something blue
From what I have read it is in the wild, but I see it as a nearly lost gene that natural selection has been removing as the fragile bright blue fish get eaten first. So to breed them in a tank and protect half the fry that turn out blue is tampering with mother nature a bit. It has also been very rare that you could actually breed 2 blues to get both genes, but again these are fragile until they get to size so they would have been food in the wild.

Re: something blue
The growth sometimes can depend on the breeder. If thay miss a couple feedings or don't get food before there yoke sacks exstingwish it will efect the growth rate. I feed my EBJD fry 3 times a day. New fry are growing quick will be able to ID fry in few days. Mom and dad are bussy last sat thay spawn again now I have 2 tanks of fry. Haveto order more brine srimp eggs LOL

Re: something blue
Thanks for the info. If one of them ends up being a male I might consider getting a smaller female to try the breeding thing and hope they pair up, but for now I am just going to sit back, relax and enjoy them. I think I have purchased to many fish in the past with the sole intention of breeding rather than setting up a perfect tank to watch. So far they are about 1.5 inches and showing great personality. Quite a bit more laid back since I took my freak stunted convict out of the tank that was their same size.
