Not me! I sold all my duboisi ..... They are absolutly stunning fish.... so yeah, that is a tropheus duboisi maswa, lake tanganyikan, looks like a mom with a mouth full too !

That nine is a SWEET SWEET PICTURE. Not saying I voted for it, but holy hell, that's super rad.

I have to say #5 is an amazing shot, and a absolutly gorgeous fish.... and of course #1 is my favorite fish, not fav variant, but still.... Love the photo work #2 with fish focused background blurry... and #6 with the little peek a boo guy from his home in a shell!! I really love every picture and will be very happy with any of them on the home page!

looks like #3 is smokin a whole pack of sumptin'! good thing lighters don't work under water or you'd have one crazy fish on your hands.

I very much planned on entering, but was swamped with a show the last few days, then I find out it started early. Ahhh. I guess I'll save it for next month. We should have a theme. Something so we have to take new pictures rather than dig through our old ones. How about macros, fry, or unique decor.

well we discussed it a few times ledieudufromage and we decided it had to be fish... so decor, tanks, plants, can be submitted, but we really are lookin for fish.... The winner does get to be on the homepage, and considering we are WA FISH BOX, it should be a fish there.

If We were to make it on fry or a specific fish lets say, and no one has that specific fish, or any fry available except you, then we wouldnt have any contestants and you would win by default (which is no fun). Considering this is not a nation wide sight with 1000 members (although we are getting big)... we have to make it simple to get as many people to enter as possible.

THIS MONTH IS SOOOOO CLOSE!!! I cant believe that this is any pictures game right now... Not one picture has got that big early lead.... this is a fun one guys! GREAT JOB THIS MONTH!

I did send a picture in, but it isn't in the contest. Do I remember reading somewhere that only 10 can make the cut?

Oh yeah... sorry I didnt mention that betty.... Unfortuently the sight wont let us have more than ten things in a poll?? Dont know why, its very frustrating because we wont everyone to get a shot at it.

Normally Mikey and I will pick who we think is the top ten pictures based on several different factors... (sometimes if you dont make it one month, we try to make sure you get in the following month).... This month I was entering a pic to try and be a contestant, So therefore mikey was the one that decided on the top ten, cause it wouldnt be fair if i was involved.

Polypterus Birchir- Apears to be a juvenile Sengalus chompin down some Silverside goodness. Mine love tid bits of dead fish...Love the fish, but not what I voted on.

Well... I'm not sure that the intention of the POTM was to get the contributors a detailed critique of their photo skills or particular fish chosen. If you scan the previous posts there is only positive comments or ?'s as to the breed. But live and learn. Welcome to the box.

As for the Tat... I agree with Billythekid. I think that it is a cool individual spot of ink that was well done.. but I hesitated to vote for it as it is an image of an image of a fish

Are you kidding Sandnuka? You just removed some of the best comments I’ve read on this forum. I don’t know if you realized but the quality of the pictures in POTM contest decreased everymonth(yes, I love the picture you won the first contest). If nobody can tell their opinion about the pictures the value of this contest will be zero shortly.
Or people will think if they put a ceramic pot in their tank they can call it “planted tank” or they can use a DIY décor for African chiclids in an Iwagumi tank.
And I agree, The name of the participants should remain confidential till the contest is over.

Yeah that is pretty lame you removed ash-raynes critique. I mean really?! Come on now some of the "rules" you guys make up here are really stupid in my opinion. You shouldn't be able to say "#.... is my picture, vote for me" But what's wrong with giving your honest opinion about the photos. She was mature and honest about it....

There are several "how-to" posts on how to take a better picture & I'm sure many just post to show off their favorite fish and don't care about winning. I can easily see how an open critique can be taken the wrong way... especially when the meaning in text can be misread. When the voting is over you could always send a PM to the person with suggestions.

In all honesty I did not delete the post because of the critiques... I deleted the post because it announced Ash-Rayne voted for. In the couple forums that I participated in the POTM contest, it was always a rule not to announce who you voted for as well as what picture was yours.

As for criticizing someones photo... I had no idea people wanted there picture picked apart.... the reason that rule is in place to protect people that dont want to be critized, obviously spyral being one of them. I personally wouldnt like anyone criticizing my photo taking ability unless I asked for it....

So, For the people that do want the photos criticized, would you like me to create a thread/topic for you to submit your photos and get critiques by members?

With all the innappropriate language being tossed around, and quoted, I figured people did not want to see it. Thats why posts were removed. Whats crazy is, Ash-rayne sent me a PM stating how offended she was about the replys she was getting, I figured she wanted them removed... but just like she said in a post I removed "If you knew me, you would no Im not sane"

I kinda liked her..lol. I'm gonna miss her.

I reported the abuse. I did not ask to have my own posts removed. I know where the delete and edit buttons are. My posts did not contain any of the inappropriate language you mentioned. The other reasons for removal of my posts is pure censorship in this type of media. I could see not announcing who you voted for (which could have simply been edited out, btw) IF the contest entries were listed with the owners named. And I can understand not allowing the owners to announce which photo is theirs since that could cause biased votes (again...I was not in that category). Common sense tells you if you don't want your photo judged by others (critiquing would be classified as such), then don't enter it in a contest. Discussion forums are for discussion. And Contest entries are for judging.

here is a suggestion... I am a member of a photography forum where there is a monthly photo contest. Once a photo is officially submitted then there is no option for critique, but the submitting member is not hidden & required to name their picture. There is always favoritism, but the best picture still wins.

And as you noted. What many do is create a post in the photo contest area (not the POTM thread) asking for advice & opinions about their picture before they submit a final image. So if people was the honest truth, they must ask for it.

Hey Ash - hang around, I think you'll like the place if you give it a chance. I promise you that Sand was doing what he thought you wanted. I've never seen another forum that has been so responsive to what the community asked for as this one. Yeah, things are pretty loose, but I think that exemplifies the comfort that this group feels with each other.

I hope you'll give it a chance, and am sorry to see that things got off to a bad start.
