Nymphaea Lotus 'Red' Experience?
So I have been wanting to add a lily to my 75 gallon tank and finally came across two small plants. I contacted the seller to see if they were still available. However, I was wondering what peoples individual experience with them is? I have read and heard from other lily keepers that this plant will do well in my larger rock substrate like anubias would. If anyone has any experience or advice with this plant I'd love your input.

Re: Nymphaea Lotus 'Red' Experience?
I have tiger lotus growing in a good majority of my tanks... All my tanks have a coarse sandy substrate, and it seems to be growing pretty well. I'd say that it does require medium light, and I figure you'd want a nice source of iron to keep the leaves red.
I have red clay in my substrate, so that takes care of any iron requirements for my plants.
When it starts to shoot "lily pads" I usually let them get to the surface, and then I cut them as close as I can to the base of the plant. I've heard that this promotes more submerged leaves to grow, than shooting out floating lily pads. (This applies to other lily plants as well).
You can see the tiger lotus on the right side of my 55 gallon.

And here's another tiger lotus, in my 15 gallon.

I bit the bullet so to speak and I purchased 2 plants and a bulb is being thrown in for free. They are smaller sized plants but it was only $10 with shipping. She said they were still available as of this morning so we will see since I just sent her the email now saying I would like to purchase them. Thanks for your input guys!

Okay, They are coming from a nano tank and kept small so I bet they will love to flourish in a bigger tank. I did read the same thing poke said about the leaves and maintaining them.

ooh, good tip, Ron! Yes, root tabs under these plants! They're notoriously good at absorbing nutrients through their roots!

Just got my first one a week and a half ago. Did get root tabs for it, and Flourish as well. So far so good. Love the color.
