Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has swordtails, guppies, mollies that they are willing to part with? I am trying to get a really pretty fish tank set up and also create food for my gar. I live on Jblm so if anyone has some and are close, please let me know.

Yes, I have some 'culls' that I would be willing to part with, but sadly I am up here in Edmonds... also they wouldn't be that pretty. I also don't know if you will get enough food quick enough to really feed your fish, but it could be a supplement to his diet. You would need a pretty large amount of starter fish to get a colony that would feed a big fish

I wish I could travel that far to get the fish! I'm doing the gold fish and some live breeder babies for the gar. I just need to figure out what else it likes to eat besides fish

Try convict cichlids? They breed fast as get bigger to fill the gar up more

I didn't know that those bred fast! I am going to look into that option. Thanks for the idea!

If you pull the fry from them I think it is once a month or every other month thing with good water parameters and good food.

I have never raised them personally though so I could be wrong on the turn around rate

Have you tried a frozen fish food yet? Something like frozen Krill or shrimp from the grocery store? A steady diet of feeders will not be that great unless they are gut loaded with good stuff. If you can pellet train, I would recommend the Hikari foods, especially the Sinking Carnivore, Massivore Delite and Floating Food Sticks. These all work great with predatory fish and you will likely get the missing nutrients into the fishes diet.
