Latest addition
Here are some crappy phone pics of the latest addition to the Madness family, my new WC beast Midas. He is developing a sweet little hump already.
I couldnt be happier with how he looks. And as soon as the WC Amarillo and WC Red Devil stop being fraidy cats, I will post pics of them, they too are really awesome looking.

He is starting to warm up to me. Eats like a champ. A little concerned with all of the little ones that I got, (the grammodes, Chancho, Sagittae) they all have very thin bellies and dont aggressively eat, actually I only see about half of them actually eat. So they are getting treatments every other day.
As soon as the female Midas comes out of hiding, I will get a shot of her, and the wc red devil, he has some awesome looking red in him. But he is a ****** still too, so have to wait for him to get comfy as well. Also the wc Amarillo, keeps hiding as well.
So, more pictures to come another day.

Re: Latest addition
Madness,
I've seen these housed in 75 gallon setups. I think they where adults they where at lest 16 inches head to tail. For a single fish is a 75 gallon tank appropriate to house this fish for a life time?

Re: Latest addition
Thanks for the update on your small ones too. As for my small ones: My trimacs are always out, eating, and swimming even with my big fish.... One of my chancos the biggest one is also always out, except he chases the smaller chanco mercilessly and he also nips at the fins of the trimacs. The good news is that they are all eating ( though the smaller chanco is skinnier than the rest) and seem to get along rather well with my other tankmates including a 10-11" synspillum

That is usually the minimum tank size recommended to house one solo large cichlid like this. Most of the times these guys only get 12"-14" but you will get an exceptional specimen that will get bigger.
I am looking to do something a bit similar (solo wet pet) but with a 72g bowfront. I dont really have an issue with it because I over filter and I am a water change fanatic.

Yes that would be ok. Ideally a 4×2 would b better but a 75 should work well.

I could probably go for these:
GRAMMODES 'MEXICAN FLAG CICHLID' Female 5" $25.00
HAITIENSIS 'HAITIAN CICHLID' 1.25" $4
TRIMACULATUS 'RED EYED CICHLID' 1.5" $5

Re: Latest addition
So it looks like we have an order....
I am just joking. I really want to try a small group of trimac and growout one beast of a male. So I would be willing to get 4-5 and try that. I dont want to spend a fortune on shipping so likely will wait a little while until a good sized order goes in.
I know you usually get it airport to airport, are their cheaper shipping options? USPS?

Hopefully you are treating him for that huge tumor on the top of his head, poor thing.
Otherwise he does indeed look beastly.

Re: Latest addition
I know you and I make 2, And Shannon wants some Istlanum so I know he makes 3. Darren always wants something , so possibly 4.
2 Day is the cheapest way. The only concern would be the 5" Grammode, otherwise the other small ones should do fine. A small order like this should not be more than $60 airport to airport. It will be about 30 lbs. or so. The last one was 2 lrg boxes 110 lbs and that was $140.

Re: Latest addition
wow he really is settling in quickly. turning into a stunner for sure, what is the point of the hump anyways? always been curious about its origins. his color is coming in nicely, itll be nice to see him once he finds a GF

Re: Latest addition
The hump is a sign of dominance or a sign of "hey look at me" to the females.
There is a female in with him. Which is probably why the hump is getting bigger
