Got the email that the Petco sale is back. The $1 per gallon sale goes from June 29 to July 12

It really is tempting if you have equipment that you can use with them. My last Petco sale tank was not that cheap since I bought the tank, glass top and stand. I do wish they did 75 gallon tanks....

Hey a heads up they are running a 20% off coupon before the $1 per gallon sale so you could buy your glass top or other accessories before the fact.

Which brand of tanks is this for again?

This is the Tetra brand of tank. These are part of United Pet Group which also includes Marineland. Just make sure to get the Tetra tops or Marineland because some others do not fit.

Oh so Dr foster and smith glass tops may not fit.

What I do is buy the tops for (marineland tops) the 6'x18" tank, that gives you 2 lids for 2 forty breeders. F&S does not sell tops for the 40 breeders.

I was thinking either a 20L, 29 or 37. Haven't fully decided yet.

The 37 is not part of the sale but the 40B is. Not as much a 'show' tank but a better footprint overall.

Ah dang. Well maybe. 20 or the 29 then.

Nope, not included in sale, in fact probably not even in their store.

Nor are 30 breeders I've noticed. The two best small tank dimensions.

True. Though I have both an unused 50 and 40 breeder in storage atm. Less height means easier to stack, plus being on the second floor the less weight helps too. Ah well.

where they get you here is that with that 40 breeder, you need lots of other equipment to actually make it work, and I'm guessing a lot of people are impatient enough that they do buy the stuff right there from petco. I would totally get a 40 breeder but the thing that has stopped me is the 200 dollars or so worth of equipment I would need to make it a decent tank.

like DMD said, if you have the equipment it's a great sale, if not it's just a ploy to get you to buy other things like lights, tops and filters

I was a bit desperate at the last sale and ended up buying a glass top, tank and stand from Petco. I had the other stuff but yeah I spent too much. But at least my little puffer has a cool home.

Not sure if Im going to get a tank or not. I told the wife I was getting a small tank for keeping 'food' for Scruffy the puffer and she didnt flinch so just have to see what fits under my 40B. They made the stand so you cant put another 36" tank under but I might get away with a 30" (20L or 29g).

Stopped into the Tacoma Mall Petco and they had a lot of tanks (at least 4 of the 40B) but almost no lids. I had to go over to the 6th Ave store to get my lid for the 20L with the 20% friends and family coupon that ends today. I wish I could fit a 29g under my 40B but way too tall. So tomorrow I am going back to get my 20L at the $1 per gallon sale. Another tank soon to come!   

my plan was to pick up a 40b tomorrow and ideally downsize. im looking at moving this october and i cant bring myself to move that beast as it sits in my living room. may even pick up two and just swap my 125 for 2 40b. i could use most of the hardware i already have and ideally liquidate the rest. just my thinking here

Hopefully a good move in October.... that will allow you another big African tank again?

@dmd yeah i hope, its just getting to be a chore taking care of such a big tank with such a big bioload. i still want to keep fish just might downsize a bit. thinking of making a tang tank but we will see.

I totally feel ya on that. Ever since I reduced my stock in my 210g it has been so much easier to keep clean. I feel like I might just understock all my tanks. Makes it more enjoyable for sure.

Got my 20L   

I stopped by Petsmart also and was so tempted to get the 29g, with the $2 per gallon sale. At $58 with the plastic hood with light it is not too bad a deal. Another cool feature is that it has black silicone. Too bad they did not have any 20L in the sale.

D petco had the 29 available.. and i plan on ordering a lid for my 40b tomorrow... id be glad to split the shipping and do a joint order. its totally something i could get foster and smith to take care of. they're customer support is amazing . just an idea

I cant fit the 29g under my 40B    so I had to pass on it. The one at Petsmart has black silicone which looks real cool

yeah the black silicone is a marineland thing i believe. its one of the reasons they fetch a slightly higher price, i really like it to, kinda helps it to feel like a framed painting. what lid did you get for your 40B? im currently looking for one, gonna be doing this new tank up right 3d background and all. gonna be a challenge and this time around the BG cant interfere with my filtration. it didnt work as well as id hoped for my 10g in the longterm. cant put anything on the back portion so filtration is a bit of an issue.

just a heads up, the way the petco sale works is you pay the full price in tax then it gets taken out after sale. was wondering how 52$ in merchandise ended up being 65$.. just a heads up.

I got the Tetra 40B lid for mine and it worked perfect. They have them at Petco also.

Just finished cutting my plywood and banding the edge. I sanded and stained it and am waiting for it to dry. My stand was not made to hold another tank but with the shelf I just cut it should look pretty good with the 40B on top and the 20L under.

petco in tacoma has 40b, lots of them actually. just tossing that out there the lids they sell are apparently the only ones available and dont cost too much thankfully, 37.99$

For $80 at Petsmart you get the 40B and glass top and a fluorescent light ( I believe with a tube). This is where the $2 per gallon is a pretty decent deal.

dangit.. alright you got me there, looks like it may have to get returned, at this point w/ paying tax its costing me more. curse you petsmart!! always bringing me back in!

I cant believe how much they charge for those dumb lights and then to get a LED you are going to spend at least $45. So a near free cheap fluorescent is pretty good.

see im just planning to frankenstein parts off my 125 for the 40b. extra filtration is always nice right? got lights and pumps already too.

Did you decide on the one 40B or two?

i only got the one, ive still got a twenty and a few 10g lying around. also gonna be setting up the gf w/ a really nice betta/nano tank for her desk. shes been talking about her old fish setup and our 5 year is coming up so two birds with one stone . really on the fence about what to get her tankwise. i like the 5.5g at petco but i really like some of the ones cory sells too.
