THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
After getting an arowana from a fellow fishbox member I had to drive 2 hours in the snow/rain with the fish in a tote in the back of my truck, when I got home and opened the tote the water must have been a maximum 40 degrees, and the arowana was belly up so I saw some gill movement and decided to put him in the tank, I held him at the surface of the water for about 10 minutes and he started moving, here we are at about two hours in the tank and he is good as new, there was also a black ghost knife that I thought for sure was dead that pulled through. So I am a lucky guy today.

It's a silver so it won't get as big as the black or Asians but I plan on getting it set up on a 250g in the next few months, it was in a 55 so for the moment my 125 will have to do. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
I though black and slivers are the biggest of the arowana. Isn't it?! Lol

Re: THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
From what I hear the asian get much bigger then the blacks and the silver's are the smallest.

Re: THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
Nice fish but silvers are by far the largest growing arowana there is, with blacks either equall to or justunder in length and are a little more slender. I've seen many silvers over 30", have raised a couple to 18" in less than a year and there are plenty of documented silvers over 36". While a 250 is nice and all your looking more at like an 8x3x2 minimum which is 360g. But the 250 should work for a couple years, assuming it's got an 8x2 footprint as silvers growth slows down once they reach 24".

I thought silver's only reached those lengths in the wild... and that they stayed in the two foot range in the aquarium... oh well either way I'm not worried I can always buy a bigger tank.

Re: THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
There is at least a 3' silver arrow in Moses lake at a pet shop... Saw it last Saturday.....crazy huge! Poor thing was living in a 55g as the shop took it in on trade. Was tempted to rescue it but my big tank houses my umbee pair and it wouldn't live well in my other large 150g either....
I've had silvers and also the jardini..... Jardini is the smallest of the ones I've kept ( mine was about 13") and my silver was about 19" when I finally donated both of them to the biology department at my college. Never kept an Asian arrow, or the black.... Back when we had ours, they lived in a 7'x 2' tank which was plenty big for the most part ( at 19" the silver was starting to struggle with the turns at the end) I also kept mine with two large blood parrots as they wouldn't fit in the mouth of my arrows, but that did lead to droopy eye in one eye.
Nice pick up and also equally nice save! Love arrows

Re: THE DRAGON FISH LIVES ON.
Yeah I still have a lot to learn I see lol but as far as housing for the arowana, that's not a big deal, I have been contemplating a wood tank build for about a year now so maybe I should get started sooner than later.
