Crayfish Empty Crayfish

I hear there are Crayfish in our rivers out here on the Olympic Peninsula, and fishing licenses cover them. Anyone have luck with keeping them?

from my research we have native and invasive crayfish here, but the only ones we are allowed to catch are the natives. Seems silly.

they dont want you to spread the invasive to other places by getting one, then moving then releasing it. it kinda makes sense if you think of it that way.

Yes...but the fish and game folk are more concerned about over fishing, as they are tasty which most people fishing them would agree with. And the fact is they are already here.

I've never tried, but our lakes and rivers are full of them. I do know that they are one of the best lures to imitate when you are fishing for smallmouth or largemouth bass. Very Happy

Up at Mason Lake near North Bend there is a ton of crays. It's strange because it's an alpine lake

piece of bacon and your good to go. Wasn't keeping any fish at the te so we through them in a skillet and cooked them up. Real good!!

Those are pretty cool. I'm picking up my electric blue ones tommorow. So stoked wait awhile to get them. Also after I started gaining intrest in them I looked up on google for the biggest ones. And they have some the size of lobsters. I don't remember the name though.

You are able to keep both you are only allowed to transport native species. You must kill invasive's with ice baths. WA has only one native species.

WDFW is not too concerned with over fishing. They don't even have a license requirement. You just can't harvest Oct-May since this is spawning season and the mothers carry the eggs and then young on her. Also there is a 5 gear limit per person for collection.
