best place to buy a sponge filter
I am in need of a sponge filter for a standard 20 gallon fish tank for my now swimming(today) umbee fry......I have close to 400 babies. all of my other tanks are currently full and the only tank i have left is a measly 20 gallon, which will work for a month, maybe two.... anyways, i have never done sponge filters before, but i hear they are great for fry. what is the best brand, and where can i easily get my hands on one in the south sound?
If you recall, i left their first batch of fry in the tank too long, and they all disappeared right before this batch came. so back to my point. send me some advice on sponge filters, and if by chance you have an extra one lying around that you would sell, let me know that too. I have the next three days off and would like to get this tank up and running so that I can move the fry around thanksgiving.

Re: best place to buy a sponge filter
These, in my opinion, are the best sponge filters out there.

The 5" cube filter is probably your best bet. I have both 30ppi and 20ppi in my tanks, but the 20ppi are definitely less maintenance.

Re: best place to buy a sponge filter
On short notice just about any sponge filter will work. I honestly don't know which stores in the south sound carry them. Worst case, if you can make it down my way, I have a a couple extra you can have cheap. They're pretty basic (not a snazzy swiss tropicals filter), but they'll work.
The point of sponge filters is to keep the water aerated while providing good biological filtration. You'll want to seed it with a squeezed out bit of sponge or floss from another mature tank of course.

I also bought some cheapie 25w heaters from them for my emersed tanks - so far so good.

Re: best place to buy a sponge filter
Sponge filters are cheap as dirt online, and they all work just about the same. Aquarium Paradise in Lakewood is where I bought one locally, just don't expect to be able to read it, unless you know Asian characters. It was about $15 for one that would fit a 20-30gal.
I honestly haven't seen any other store around here that carries sponge filters.

Re: best place to buy a sponge filter
Just curious, but what did you mean by saying that your fry "disappeared"? Is that a nice way of saying that they got eaten by mom?
