Introduction!
Hello,
I'm relatively new to this site, registered in June but just found my way back. A LFS dude told me that I should come back and check it out.
I'm normally on MFK as TheSinisterSOB.
Crenicichla of all kinds are my favorite, but I've recently been biten by the cichla bug.
Current tanks,
125g with 2 beautiful lenticulata pike, 3 red hooks, 2 mystery silverdollars.
75g with 7 rio meta orinocensis (3"), 15 metynnis maculatus, and some geo's.
I'm looking to update my 125g, and sell my pike and the other inhabitants.
The wife doesnt know it yet, but I'm planning a 700g+ cichla plywood tank in the garage. Hopefully with a terrarium that has a nice Amazon rainforest theme on top of the cichla tank.
Anyways, thank you for having me!

Re: Introduction!
Welcome CMC. I hope that you find that us here on the Box are far more enjoyable to share your fish and experiences with. I too was a very avid MFKer but flat out got sick and tired of the BS and all the know it all attitudes. People picking fights just because they can. I have met a lot of friends from MFK but its the attitude that I am done with.
So I hope to see you hanging with us more often now.
Welcome again.

Re: Introduction!
haha, yeah I understand...That's a great looking lent! Both of mine look a lot like her!
However they dont show much of the NASTY lent aggression. I had 4 of them in my 125g, and they'd fend the other two pike out of their territory, but I've never seen them freak out like others have talked about. Will be a sad day if I'm able to sell them.
I'll try to get some pics up, but this site doesnt seem to cooperate with me.

Re: Introduction!
Yeah there's a lot of attitude at MFK...I think this site has an advantage though...Lots of people in the GNW are more inviting and understanding than those around the country.Madness wrote:Welcome CMC. Re: Introduction!
Yeah, I still peek over there but don't post much ... mostly to newbies. I got tired of hearing "If you don't have a dovii, festae, or umbee you aren't a real fish keeper!!!!" People are much nicer over here. I've been here and Mike Wise's forum mostly.CMooreCichlids wrote:dwarfpike, this is where you been hanging out?

Sorry to hear you are letting go of your lents. Wish I had space and money to buy a tank for them, they are amazing.

Re: Introduction!
Thanks, yeah they really are beautiful fish. Once I'm able to get my cichla into a larger tank, I'll be getting some regani or noto's..I simply cannot stay away from the pikes. Re: Introduction!
The picture issue may because I think you have to have like 10 days under your belt at WashFishBox before posting links, pictures, & sell things. I am not sure of the actual time line....

Re: Introduction!
Well this is for you two pikers, (pikers? ) have you ever owned, know much about the Crenicichla Acustirostris? Are they worth their $200 + price tag? Size? Attitude?

Re: Introduction!
They only come around every few years, been out of my price range. Pretty pikes though, more pattern than color. According to Peanut they aren't that aggressive.
Here's the profile from Vinnie's site: http://www.oocities.org/vinnykutty/acutirostrispage.html
And remember ... there are three types of fish ... Pike cichlids, dithers for pike cichlids, and food for pike cichlids!!!!

Re: Introduction!
Sorry Maddness I haven't heard of them until now. I did some quick reading & seems they are rare to find in the hobby. So your pricing is probably correct but don't quote me on it...Madness wrote:Well this is for you two pikers, (pikers? ) have you ever owned, know much about the Crenicichla Acustirostris? They are pretty rare, but I'm not entirely sure its a $200 rare fish...I'm a bit of a cheap azz though.Madness wrote:Well this is for you two pikers, (pikers? ) have you ever owned, know much about the Crenicichla Acustirostris? Are they worth their $200 + price tag? Size? Attitude?
