Notice Petsmart has a $2 per gallon sale up to 50g. This includes hood and light. This is where it can get expensivive, when you get the stuff to complete the tank.

If you go through Ken's to get your items you can complete a tank for much cheaper and when you get to $100 you get free shipping. Include your fish food purchases and it's a great deal!

Kens does have a lot of stuff and prices are good. They do not have glass tops to cover the tanks and have a limited amount of hoods also. This is where Petco makes the money. They know some people will have to buy these things and by the time they are done the Petsmart $2 per gallon can be just as good of a deal because they have the glass top/hood light in the set up.

Or just don't support a corporation who hates the hobby and is using you for money?

Ask a LFS employee. They will order you a top or hood. Or like Shorty said, bundle stuff to get discounts.

Dr. Foster and Smith sells glass tops for pretty decent prices. That is where I get all of mine from. I bought brand new ones for my 75 gallon from them and they fit perfectly. I am very pleased with both Dr. Foster and Smith as well as Ken's. Just use petco or petsmart to get the tank themselves cheap and support others and bundle items to get good deals.

Pretty much any glass shop will build a custom lid for you. Just get the dimensions and have money in hand. I wouldn't expect a top for a 55 to be more than $20.

And to stay on topic, its too bad I don't have any money, I would love to grab a 20gal long or two.

They had a bunch of them! the majority were 29 talls and 20 longs a few 40 breeders too
