Genetic flaw??
(Not really an ID me but an ID condition)
This is the only one that looks like this in a batch of red texas cichlids. All from the same parents. And it has only recently started looking like this but is progressing more and more daily. It has no other physical characteristics of illness or acting like it is sick. Eats fine, is active and everything. Does anyone know why in a group like this only this one looks so much different??

Re: Genetic flaw??
Can't really see anything myself, its too dark. Is it just markings or what? Dominancy does leave runts that get picked on. Unless its sores or something?

No, it basically looks like it's color is falling off lol. It likes to stay in one of the plants but doesn't have any nips on it's fins like it's getting picked on either. I'll see if I have a better pic with more lighting. I took them tonight so I may have to get better pictures during the day tomorrow.

Re: Genetic flaw??
Might be a wierd recessive color combo from the hybridization. Sometimes mixes have strange results.

Re: Genetic flaw??
it's fading(going from juvenile colors to adult colors). the dominant fish go through this process first, with the rest following shortly after that. because the parents were a combo of red devil and texas (hoping for red texas) it is fading like the red devils do...... i have three that are starting to do this too out of that batch, and madness has one that has gone completely through the fading process. you will have to ask him for pics. the dad was creamsicle red devil and mom was texas. my biggest one is fading white, my second biggest is fading orange, and my third biggest is fading yellow..... the rest (5) are doing nothing at the moment besides keeping their juvenile colors......
it's fun to watch, so enjoy! my pure midas went through this a couple of months ago. i hope this helps:lol:

Re: Genetic flaw??
Wow that's weird. It is one of the medium sized ones and has been the only one so far to do it. It's not the dominant one in the group. But it will be fun to watch! Thank you Lloyd!

Re: Genetic flaw??
Weird.... My three largest are the first to fade. Figured because they were more mature/ dominant. Maybe he is just ready to take over haha
