Tank in Garage opinions? Empty Tank in Garage opinions?

I just picked up a 235 and just happen to moving to the spanaway area shortly. The 160 with reside in the house as it looks a bit better and I know the floor can take it. The 235 I would like to keep in the garage, however I have found no info that pertains to the weather around here. I will be making a steel stand, fully insulated and closed in with 2 sumps. The back will also be insulated. It is a room divider tank so the back is the "end" on a regular rectangle tank. The bottom will also be foam insulated. What are all the pros thoughts on this? I'm thinkin it will work, only because our temps dont heavily fluctuate. Thanks Fellas!

Tank in Garage opinions? Empty Re: Tank in Garage opinions?

As most on here know my set up. It is all in my garage. The main thing that I have learned over the past 2 years is insulation. Smile Not around the tanks, (though this helps) but in your walls and ceiling. Also it is not a bad idea to make sure walls and ceiling are painted with a mildew resistant primer. Once the temp outside drops, your tank/tanks will cause your walls, ceiling or whatever to condensate and either rot or mold, if not insulated properly. My fish room maintains 70 degrees all year round. (warmer in the Summer) Now that I am turning my entire garage into my fish room, I need to insulate everything, rock it and primer it, before the temp starts to drop.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Awesome, thanks guys. Got moved and settled yesterday, seems the garage is all your standard insulation behind sheetrock. The door itself has no foam on it, but it does have slots in it for some. I also got a heater pad, about 3 foot by 2 foot made for a water bed but I'm thinking of putting it under the tank. Any thoughts on that?!

I would put the heat pad on the back wall. under the tank you might get a pressure point and break the bottom glass. I have a Garage tank I cover it with styro-foam in the winter, it stays warm with no problems, but I have no insulation on the garage. Good luck with it.

That is a possibility, thanks! Well I have started to insulate the door itself and adding weather strip around it to stop drafts, the rest is insulated same as the house. Been following Madness's garage fish room journal which has helped with ideas! thanks madness!

Little off topic, what all do you breed madness? May be interested in stocking the new 235 with your fish.
