Higher Wattage Heater.
So... im thinking of getting a Fluval E300 for my 55gal which is rated up to 100gal. I assume thats fine.
But...... What about in a 5 or 10 gallon? The reason i ask is because for some weird ass reason.. the Fluval E50, E100, E200 are all more expensive than the E300 on amazon..... Which is cheaper than anywhere else...
Anyways... a 300 watt in a 5 or 10 gal?

I wouldn't do it. It'll heat up too fast.

Re: Higher Wattage Heater.
so wait.. do you think 300w is too much for 55gal? I've got 3 AC 70s hanging off it too.

300 for the 55 should be fine i have used a 250 and 200 with out problems just not a 300 in a 5-10 you would only want about 50 in that one .just to much power in such a small space

Re: Higher Wattage Heater.
I notice most 300w heaters are for much much larger tanks. Yet the fluval e300 says 100gal. Sort of weird.
Im sort of wondering if i should not get it. Im seeing tons of mixed reviews.

eeh you will see mixed reviews on all the brands
I keep a 250 watt steallth heater on my 38G
I've read that some people use heating pads use for reptiles
to keep smaller tanks heat it

Re: Higher Wattage Heater.
Hi Kaie,
A good "Rule of Thumb" for sizing a heater for an aquarium in a room with a normal ambient temperature is "5 watts per per gallon". So a 5 gallon aquarium would use a 25 gallon heater; a 20 gallon would use a 100 watt heater; a 55 gallon would use a 275 watt heater (250 watt if the room is warm / 300 watt if area is cool).
If I have a room that is cool, a basement, or other "chilly" area, then I use this sizing guide.
