mmmm shrimp. Nice video of the shrimp. Been interested in starting a colony of a type of shrimp but not sure what yet. But mine are intended as feeders.

i am ashamed to admit this (no I am not) but I have a 20gallon long tank that has been up and running for months now that would be perfect for shrimp (was growing out some fry, now it's empty) and some of that plant shown in that video...... can anyone(aquarium coop) tell me what I could expect to pay to get some entry level shrimp to live in my tank?
thanks in advance

At a store entry level shrimp would be $4-$6. Private party, you might be able to find some at $2 each.

my current substrate is a mix of red, white, and black gravel..... would the reds blend in too much? should i look for some other color / species / shrimp?

Fun informational videos Cory, I like them. I am growing all these plants & appreciate  the experienced info about how deep to plant the Cryps, & about melting. Keep them coming Smile

Hey cory, speaking of Val, has the small val that you sold me out of the 20gal tank gotten any longer?

Mine have only gotten a little longer, but keep chaining off babies like crazy... and I have them outside now, so they have plenty of light.

I would definitely try val first if you're new to plants, I tried a crypt (not lutea, it is wendii red) that just completely melted once I put it in the tank, which is fairly common. It's come back almost fully now (actually is half-melting again because I moved it into the greenhouse where it gets more sun), but they do seem to be picky about everything being consistent. Which, honestly, is something you should shoot for anyway, but if you're just starting out with plants I wouldn't recommend crypts from my experience

Very cool Cory!

Is it possible to create something like a library on the forum, where the videos can be sorted (either alphabitized, or by species type)? That way, when eventually there are many more species info videos, someone looking for info on a particular species wont have to seach through a big long thread?

hurhurhur loving the dwarf frog pile!!
as for live plants....my very first one melted leaf by leaf and each new leaf was about 3/4 the size of the one before it >> until it was less than probably half an inch tall oops....probably a light/don't know what I'm doing/ accidentally uprooting whenever i did a gravel vac/planted in gravel/no food. The poor thing just keep getting tinnier and tinnier from the respectable height that I bought it at.

great videos XDD

I'll look into this option. Not sure if it's feasible with the current forums we use.

It was probably a sword of some sort the ones PETCO sells but that was several years ago and it melted into oblivion.... my new 2 gallon tank with the first live plants since then is taking off instead Very Happy lots of "dwarf" grass, anubis Nana which is being slow and moneywort that loves getting too tall and poking out if my tank.
