New pair laid eggs!
Had a new hybrid pair from over the last couple weeks. I know that hybrids are frowned uppon. I am very interested to see some of these grow out. Colors should be pretty awesome! Male is a Hemichromis Frempongi, the female is a Hemichromis Fasciatus. Both fish are 4-5". The female has colored up pretty nicely since laying her eggs. The male frempongi has always looked pretty awesome with the red on the bottom. I'll try to post a vid in a day or so when the fry hatch.

Eggs are now larvae. Don't mind the music. Was messing around with an app called capture.

Re: New pair laid eggs!
i LOVE the colors exhibited by your fish. are those the sgt. major cichlids (sorry i may have the common name wrong) either way cant wait to see what kinda offspring they throw out if theyre viable. im sure you already know this but if you do decide to rehome some of them please make sure to label them as hybrids (kills me a little inside each time i see somebody trying to sell off their hybrids )

Re: New pair laid eggs!
The most common of the 5 spot cichlids is the 5 star general. The 2 that have paired up are rarer then the general. This is the first time I've seen Hemichromis Fasciatus available to the US since the high 90's. The last time I've seen Hemichromis Frempongi available was around 2003 (J. Rapps). I picked up these fish last year and bought every single one I could buy on the west coast. The female in this pair is a Hemichromis Fasciatus. The male is a Hemichromis Frempongi. I am hoping that the offspring will have awesome colors!
I am not to sure if I will sale any of this first batch. If I do, I'll make sure to let everyone know it's a hybrid. I really wouldn't like a bad reputation. I will also let who ever buys them know that they will most likely cause havoc in their tank and be prepared if they buy them. These fish truly are amazing and have great personalities.

Re: New pair laid eggs!
Thanks! The female isn't even close to how aggressive my other female is. She actually runs away and leaves the fry. My main female will attack any and everything when you get close to the tank. Even when you're 4-5ft away she's already trying to attack you and fry go twirling around everywhere. So this pair is actually quite nice. I am hoping to get a few of these to adult hood but not sure if I have enough tanks to accomplish this. If their anthing like my fasciatus fry, they'll start killing eachother off at 1". They don't stop until they're the only one left. I guess they are the Highlander of cichlids. "there can only be one"! Once one is injured, they all attack like a pack of piranhas. It's crazy! I showed my GF one time, she's like "what's happening"??? Like 10 seconds later there's a fish floating with no eyes and no mouth... Pretty wild.
Anyways, thanks!!!!
Anyways, thanks!!!!

Re: New pair laid eggs!
Sad news... Came home Saturday... My Male H. Frempongi killed by my Female Fasciatus. Have about 20 fry. Fry are separated in 3 different tanks...
Is it possible that I use my male from my WC pair to breed with this female as well? He'd be my H. Fasciatus stud...
Anyways, sad day. Had this fish for proably over a year. Haven't seen them before that since 2003 so the chances of me getting them is slim to none...
Thanks for reading...

Re: New pair laid eggs!
Update on my hybrid fry. Male is around 6" now. Runs the tank. The smaller one appears to be a female. Some signs of pairing going on. Moved all these from my 90g to my 180g around a month ago.
