Hello,

I have a very sweet, docile silver dollar fish who needs a new home. I originally got him at 75% off at petco because he was beaten up so badly he was just a round orb with half a dorsal fin, and no other fins. He could barely swim and was not going to be bought, so I brought him home and cared for him so he wouldn't die. Well, it's 6 months later and he is beautiful. All fins are grown back and he is healthy and much bigger. Because he was beat up, he is rather shy & doesn't realize he is the biggest fish in the tank. I have all docile fish, but the silver dollar still hides until it's feeding time. He is a bit social, but the problem is I have a 20 gal and there is not enough room. I am looking for someone who has an extra tank, or a larger tank where this guy can stretch his fins. I really dont want to take him back to petco as I want to ensure he goes to a good home. He is very cute and round. We call him humpty dumpty because he looked like an egg when he came home swam upside down for two days (until his fins started growing in). This is a picture of a silver dollar, but not mine. He looks exactly like this but if you are interested I will definitely send you some real pictures. Please let me know. thanks, christy

Very humane of you and it was and is very lucky to have you save it.
Always glad to read about saved fishes, instead of fishes being bought due to being the most healthy.

I'm sorry, cannot take it, but wished I could.

I have a 52" long tank with seven large SD's in it. It has been my observation that they are all a bit shy and skittish. Half of my tank is covered with floating vegetation and the SD's always hide out in the back corner, even though the tank is up high and secluded. Silver Dollars always do best in large schools from what I have read and experienced. With the school I have, they don't hang back at feeding time, but rather come out as a bunch and are pretty voracious. They are fine as long as I don't move too quickly while feeding them. I have to keep replenishing the plant cover, because SD's eat anything green and alive. Had a bamboo plant in there for awhile and they nearly destroyed it. I can add your lonely dweller to my school if you are game.
Larry

ps. I finally figured out how to add images here. The first one shows the tank (45 gallons - 52 x 16 x 12.5) and the second shows the school of SD's hiding.
